Quiet (Poem)

*Poem*

So I'm trying something new and I'd like to know what you think, enjoy!

'It's so quiet' you say

But it's not
You just don't listen

I can hear the jingle
Of the keys
As we thunder down
The road

I can hear the constant hum of the tires
Eating away the asphalt
As they bring us closer
To our destination

I can hear the beat
Of the music
We have on such low volume
The sounds barely reaching
My ears

I can hear the tap
Of gravel
As they are kicked
Up by other forces

I can hear the AC
Blowing through the vents
The sound soft and
Steady

I can hear the acceleration
And deceleration
Of the car as we move
To accommodate to the rules of the road

I can hear the brief whispers
Of passing cars
As they race past us
Along the darkened stretch of land

And I can hear
The steady breaths
Coming from you
Each huff rhythmic
And evenly spaced

The sounds lull me to rest
Basking in the noise
As it tells me
'I am not alone'

And you say 'it's so quiet'

But it's not
You just don't listen

So this is a poem I wrote on my way home from the movies with my dad (we went to see Star Trek: Beyond in 3D, don't know why people like 3D so much, it hurts my eyes!)

He didn't say anything about us not talking but the silence reminded me of how my friends always say 'you're so quiet' and 'it's so quiet' but the thing was that it was never quiet to me at all.

I know it's not a very good poem but I had fun writing it up in the dark.

I hope you enjoyed it,

Ciao!
