Chapter Twenty

It's been a few days since everyone found out Kyle was released. I haven't spoken to Neil since that morning, I've been with Jeremy the whole time. I haven't left the house. I barely spoke to Jeremy, I haven't eaten just stayed in his room. I kept my phone off knowing Kyle has my number.

My thoughts were interrupted when Jeremy came into his room, the room I was in. "Kat, mom and dad come home today. I really want you to stay." I shook my head no.

"I have to get back to Neil, he's probably freaking out right now. And I need to get back to school. I can't be scared of going out. I'll run into him one day. "

He smiles softly before saying, "Please, keep in touch. I was really worried when we weren't talking." That got me thinking.

"Did you feel the same as him?" I raised my eyebrow.

"Dad? Honestly, I don't know Kat. I was just picking the easier way in life. It was the wrong way but that was all on me. I should've done something. I'm sorry." He leaves the room and I look down at Nanook who was looking back up at me too. I sigh getting out of bed. I should really get to Neil's an tell him. I get my shoes on and have Nanook walk me down. I missed him so much, and I could tell he missed me, he hasn't left my side. It was hard to make this change but I wasn't the one to make it.

I was half way down the stairs before I heard loud talking at the door so I go to check it out. To see if Jeremy was okay then I saw.. I froze.

"You think we are friends after what you did to my sister?!"

"Jeremy it's not what you think."

"Did you know she was here Klye? Or are you just following her around?" He crossed his arms.

"Yes, I am following her with a cop following me," He turns his head looking at the cop at the end of the driveway, "watching my every move so her crazy boyfriend doesn't try to kill me. No really, I just wanted to see you. Jer-"

"No. I don't know if this is cause of your brain damage or whatever but I don't understand why you came to see me. Why, you thought I'd be okay with you. I don't want to see you again, which means don't come to my house ever again. Lose my number, everything about Kat an I. Or else. " He goes goes to shut the door but Kyle smacks his hand on the door before it could shut.

"Or else what buddy? You scared of me or something? I could kill you next, you never know. " All of a sudden Jeremy has Kyle penned against the door gripping his shirt.

"Jeremy!" I yell getting worried watching the cop comes walking up with his hand on his gun not pulling it out yet. Kyle looks at me smirking, I felt disgusted.

"Hands off Mr. Burns." Jeremy listens pushing him off the porch making the cop bump into him.

"Get him off my property now, and Kyle, I meant staying away from Kat and I" Kyle just smirked while rolling his eyes walking down the driveway.

Jeremy's breathing was heavy and his chest was going in and out. I've never seen him this mad before, his fists clinched up. "Jeremy, I-"

"He shouldn't have come here. Who does he think he is! Tout le monde le babying! " I looked down at my feet knowing when Jeremy speaks french he is really mad.

"Je connais." I said, I know that everyone was babying him, it wasn't fair. I loved speaking french, feels like I'm speaking with my father, my real one. He was French and speaking it reminded me of him so much. But Jeremy hated learning and hates speaking it because it does remind him of our parents. He then starting saying some really bad things in french which I tried to ignore. I scratch my head worried.

"Kat, you need to go. Their going to be here soon. I'll give you a ride. Take Nanook please. He just sits around waiting for you. I told him I'll get rid of him, they hate him whining for you all the time. Best when he's with you instead of a shelter." He ran his fingers through his hair, scratching it too.

Nothing was said after that. I get Nanook in the car then myself. Jeremy locks up the house and drives me to Neil's place. It was a slow an short drive there. Once we pull up Neil's door fly's open and I get out of the car. He walks over to me and hugs me tight. Jeremy walks up with Nanook on his leash wagging his tail. Neil looks down a little confused. He just hugs Jeremy.

"Thanks man, I was so worried. She didn't call or text." He gripped my waist.

"Shouldn't have worried. She was with me the whole time. Nothing happened. Nothing happened at all. " Jer looks at me signaling me not to say anything about what happened. I nod then hug him tight. "Text me later Kat. So I know you're okay." I smile softly. I missed him so much. He kissed my head then hands me the leash. "Take care of her man, please."

"I will." Neil wraps his arm around my shoulder watching him drive away. "Why didn't you just send a text baby?" He looks at me worriedly.

"He had my number. My phone hasn't been on since then." He just hugged me tight breathing lightly.

His voice was soft and sweet, "Kat, I love you too much to lose you.."
