Me? a Winter fairy? That can't be true! thought Zadia. “ Really?” she asked. “Yes. There are few Winter fairies. We have four in all.” said Declan. “ Who are the others?” asked Zadia. “There is Puck and Diecon. Come, we shall go meet them.” “ Well, I better get going,” Shar said, “ I have to help the others guard the gate. Rumors say the elves are coming by to talk business, and you know how stubborn those guys can be!” “ Yes, yes, go on head.” Declan said.
Declan and Zadia walked up to Diecon's room first. She had jet black hair, and bright blue eyes. She looked to be only 13. They talked for a little while, Diecon was very curious about what the real world was like. After a few more minutes, Declan said they should go see Puck. His hair was the same white as Declan's. He was not, however, hunched over like Declan. He sat up straight with his head high. He looked like her was around 17 years old. “Hello, Zadia. Pleasure to see you again.” he said. “ Hello. It is nice to meet you.” she responded. They did not talk as long as Zadia and Diecon had. After about 5 minutes of silence, Declan and Zadia said good bye and left to see Zadia's room.
Zadia's room was amazing. It's walls were a pale peach, that match the flowered bedspread. The bed had a huge white canopy made of silk. The curtains were white and made of silk, too. The top border of the room was covered in different colored jewels. There was a small white desk in one corner and a widow seat so she could watch the rainbow of people. “This is beautiful!” cried Zadia. “ How did you get all this silk and jewels? It must have cost a fortune!” “In Avalon, silk is easy to make, and jewels are everywhere.” Declan told her.
Zadia had many questions for Declan but then she remembered that the bus driver would be looking for her. It had almost been an hour and a half already. When she told her problem to Declan, he said not to worry. He told her that the other fairies were going to send him away and that she could stay here instead of the hotel.
“Why do the fairies have different colored hair?” she asked. “ Each fairy has its own season, which decides the type of magic they can do. Once they master their magic their hair will turn green if they are spring, yellow if they are summer, orange if they are fall, or white if they are winter. Puck has mastered his magic, and his hair is white. But Diecon is still young and she hasn't mastered her magic. Until she does, her hair will stay black.”
“Do fairies have parents?” she asked. “No.” Declan said. “Some fairies will attach themselves to older fairies and call them their parents, but they truly aren't. Fairies are born from the seed of a flower. Each seed but one is a real flower, the other is a fairy. The fairy seed will follow the wind to our pine tree, the one you entered through. It will attach itself to a branch and grow there until it is fully developed. Then it will enter into Avalon and will go to it's season.
“How do they know their season?” “ If the flower they came from was a spring flower they are spring. If it was a summer flower they are summer, and so on.” “Oh.” Zadia had so many questions but she figured that since Declan was a king, he had other important things to do. “ Is that all the questions and answers you needed?” he asked. “ Yes, I think so,” Zadia said. “But what about my parents?” “Ah, yes. You have developed an attachment on your parents. It will be up to you whether you tell them the truth or not. I can send you back to them right now, I'll even include your luggage.” “ That would be great!” Zadia said, “ You can do that?” “ Of course, you'll be able to eventually too. Good-bye!”
He snapped his fingers and the next second, Zadia found herself and her luggage at home. Should she tell her parents? They would never believe her, but she didn't want to lie to them. For now, she would just tell her parents she came back early. She wanted to keep this to herself for now. She would just have to avoid talking about her past.
She wondered how she could get back to Avalon. She certainly couldn't travel to Gypsum every time she wanted to get there. A bright flash distracted her from her thoughts. It was a pouch with a note attached to it.
Zadia,
I forgot to give this to you. It is a pouch with
magic dust in it. When you sprinkle is on you,
and wish to be in Avalon, Avalon is where you
will be.
Declan
Zadia had a hard time reading Declan's writing, but in the end she realized that it said the pouch was full of magic dust, and when she sprinkled it on her and wished to be in Avalon, she would be in Avalon. Well that solves one of my problems, thought Zadia.
