Puck was going to do all that? How was he going to get rid of Declan? She had to tell someone!
Quickly, she closed the book and put it back on the bed. Then she hurried out the door to look for Declan. He was still under that tree. “Declan, Declan! I have something really important to tell you!” Zadia yelled “What is it Zadia?” Declan asked. “Its Puck! I read in his journal that he is going to get rid of you and release monsters into Avalon!” Zadia exclaimed. “That can't be true. Puck is one of our most trusted fairies. He would never do that.” Declan said. Zadia left to go find Shar. Hopefully he would believe her!
She looked all over Avalon for Shar, but she couldn't find him anywhere. She got to the point where she asked every person she saw if they knew where Shar was. None of them knew. Zadia eventually gave up. She decided she would have to save Avalon herself. First she needed to know where they kept the “monsters” and what the “monsters” were. She decided to ask Diecon. Diecon told her the monsters were kept back behind the Palace. She said to go over the hill and then look for a small gray building. The monsters were apparently all the ogres, trolls, gnomes, and evil elves the fairies caught. Zadia went back behind the Palace, and over the hill. She saw the building Diecon told her about, but Zadia didn't dare go near it. She was unarmed and had no idea how dangerous the monsters could be. She went back to her room and made a plan. She would learn her magic fast, that way she could use it against the monsters. Then she would watch Puck and make sure he wasn't going to do anything to Declan. If he did, Zadia would catch him in the act. She didn't know what to do after that though. She would have to learn her magic so she could put a spell on him or something.
The next morning, Zadia got up with the sun. She was looking for something to wear, when she remembered that she forgot to bring clothes! She opened her closet, and surprisingly found a whole wardrobe of clothes! Most of the fabric was made of silk. She picked out a green silk shirt, and an ankle length black skirt. A few moments later, Zadia heard a knock on her door. “Come in!” She called. The door opened and revealed Puck. “How can I help you?” Zadia said sweetly. “More likely how can I help you.” Puck said. “Declan sent me here to teach you magic.” “Oh, okay! Well then lets get started!”
Zadia saw this as a great opportunity. She would get a chance to hear the spells Puck knew, then she would have a better idea of what he was planning to do. The first thing her taught her was about wands. He said she could go get her own at a the Summer fairies Market, it was their job to make the wands. He also told her that most wands were made of diamonds so that they didn't break. He taught her how to freeze and unfreeze things first. Since they were Winter fairies, things that involved winter were their specialty. Next he showed her how to use her wand to made Winter plants grow, and he showed her how to make a potion that heals fairies from frost bite. To make the potion, she had to first grow a plant called Winter bloom, and then she had to shred it up and mix it with cherry juice. After that, she had to freeze it for an hour, and once she unfroze it, it would cure fairies of frost bite!
Puck also gave her 3 books to study. He said that they would teach her other potions, so she could learn without him. She thanked Puck for the lesson and started back to her room. She put her books down on the desk for later and headed back where she came from. First she was going to search the classroom for any clues of what Puck was going to do. She found a book laying open on a potion to turn anyone who drank it into a giant. Puck could easily use that to get rid of Declan! She did not, however, find anything else that was at all useful. Before she went back to her room, she went to the Summer Market Puck told her about. If she was going to stop Puck, she definitely needed a wand. Oh, no! Zadia thought, I don't have any money! What kind of money do they use here anyway? She decided to go ask Diecon. Diecon told her that she had no idea what money was. She said they all had a job, and they did it for the benefit of other fairies, not for something in return. Well that was a waste of time Zadia thought. But at least now she knew.
