Zadia decided she wasn't hungry anymore. Now she just felt sick to her stomach. What did they mean they didn't know where she came from? And she might even have other parents? That couldn't be true! She had always lived with her parents, so they had to be her real parents! She silently went up the steps and in her room. If that was the truth, why wouldn't they tell her? Didn't she have a right to know what they were talking about, especially since it was about her?

She needed to talk to someone about this, but who? She thought about calling her best friend, Selina, but she was in France visiting family. She didn't know who else to talk to. She had a lot of other friends, but none she trusted enough to talk to. Maybe I should just keep it to myself, she thought. Besides she didn't know all the details, and she didn't want any rumors to go around about her. Her head was spinning, all those words her parents said were stuck inside of it. Her headache was getting even worse, and she didn't think that was a good thing at all. She thought about going down to tell her parents, but she didn't want to hear anymore of that conversation than she already had. To clear her head a bit, she decided to take a nap. Maybe then things would become clearer.

Zadia woke up to the sound of her alarm clock. Did she really sleep that long? She must have been really tired! She got up got dressed, and went downstairs for breakfast. She found there was an apple on the table for her, but her parents weren’t there. She found a note on the table.

Zadia, We had to leave for our meeting. We'll be home around 12:00 Love, Mom &Dad

They had to leave for a meeting? What meeting? They never told her anything about a meeting. Well maybe it was a last minute thing they didn't know about until this morning. Yeah, that had to be it. She wondered where they were at. Why didn't they tell her? Then she remembered about last night, but that just put more questions into her mind. What if it wasn't a meeting and it had to do with them “not knowing where she came from.” She sat down to eat her apple. She needed all energy she could get, all this think gets really tiring, after all!

Once she finished, she sat down on the couch to watch TV. Nothing she wanted to watch was on. Maybe she could go outside and finish her book. She went out back and started looking for her book. She usually kept them outside, because in Colorado, you don't get all that much rain. She couldn't find it anywhere. Then she remembered she left it up in her tree. So much for reading, her mom would be so mad if she found out she went back up in the tree, she might even get grounded for a month. What was she supposed to do now? She couldn't watch TV, or read, maybe she could take a walk. That would be good to get some fresh air. Just as she was getting her shoes on, her parents came home. “Where do you think your going?” Her dad asked.

“Well, I was going to go for a walk.”

“I don’t think so!”

“Why not?”

“ Because we don't want you out of the house without someone else!”

“That's so unfair! I'm 15 not a little kid!”

“ End of discussion. We are your parents and we will tell you what you can and can't do!”

“ You're not my parents! I heard mom say you might not even be my real parents!”

With that, Zadia left her parents in the kitchen and stormed up to her room and locked the door. They were so unfair! They even lied to her! “We are your parents and we get to tell you what to do,” they said. Yeah, right! She thought. How could they be so cruel to lie to her about her past? For all she knew, her whole life could be a lie! Zadia decided to go back downstairs and get every detail she could out of her parents.

“Zadia, please don't do this! Your not ready!”

“When will I be ready, dad? I'm 15 not2!”

“Zadia, don't argue with me!”

“It's about me and I have a right to know!”

“Yes, but we don't even know everything!”

“So tell me what you do know!!”

 “No!

“Well then I'll figure it out myself! I'm leaving and not coming back until I have answers!”
