“Ah! Help! Cara!”
“Nope. You got yourself into that Soph.” I replied, smiling.
“Please! Please help me! Car- Ah!” She screeched.
“No! Stop asking for help! She’ll never help you! Hahahaha!”
“Damian! Stop! Ah!” Sophie stumbled on her words while dodging Damian and Aaron grabbing at her.
Rolling my eyes, I walked over to where they all stood and grabbed both boys by the necks. A chorus of ‘ow’s were audible from them, but I ignored that. They both crinkled their necks in attempt to get me to let go. I tightened my grip on their necks until they started to follow where I was heading. I walked past the kitchen, past the stairs leading towards the basement, and through the other set of doors that lead to the living room. After hearing them grumble complaints under their breath, I sat them down and looked them dead in the eyes.
“What were you guys going to do to poor little Sophie, now?”
They looked at me with guilty looks and said simultaneously, “Nothing.”
“And what do you say?”
“Sorry Sophie.”
I patted them on their heads. “Good boys. Now, I think it’s time to go home and sleep.”
“Why not have a sleep over?”
“Because I don’t want to.”
Sophie and Damian pouted, but I turned around and grabbed my shoes. I took my socks off and shoved them into one shoe then turned to them. “I’ll see you all tomorrow, okay? Promise.”
“Alright. See you tomorrow.” They all said with pouts.
I let out a small laugh and walked to the front door, letting myself out of the small house. I walked down the street, my bare feet hitting the pavement. I heard a door close and then a vehicle start up. Elainas voice was clear hollering for them all to behave through the window of her car, even though no windows were open in the house.
Snickering, I continued to walk, humming alone to Hold On by Good Charlotte. I turned a corner, and started to softly sing the words alone with the song.
“Hold on if you feel like letting go, hold on it gets better then you know. Your days, you say they’re way too long; and your nights, you can’t sleep at all. Hold on.”
The pain I’ve held in for suck a long time started to leak out through the lyrics, as I started to tear up. “And you’re not sure what you’re waiting for, but you don’t want to no more. And you’re not sure what you’re looking for, but you don’t want to no more. But we all bleed the same way as you do… and we all have the same things to go through…”
I let out a sob. It always seems as though I’m sad and hurt lately. I don’t know why. I don’t have a reason to. I have three good friends, my life seems to be going up hill. Nothing’s wrong anymore. So why am I feeling this way?
Suddenly, my phone started to buzz. I looked at it, noticing Mike calling me. “Um, hi?”
“Cara?”
“Yes?”
“What are you doing right now? Josh wants you to come hang again?”
In the background, I heard Josh screaming that he doesn’t and that Mike’s lying, which caused me to laugh when I really didn’t feel like it. This façade is getting old; I just want them to see how I really feel. All of them.
“Well, I have things to get done tonight. How about tomorrow? All of us. Including Damian, Aaron, and Sophie?”
“I don’t know, man. Is it safe? I heard there’s a charity thing going on and that this awesome band is playing. What’s it called again?”
