One Week Later

"Mom, dad, Duncan, this is my new girlfriend, Chelsea." Derek beamed.
It had been a week since Duncan got home. Since it was July, he wouldn't be in school for another month.
All week he's basically just been hanging out with Leo, Tate, and Derek.
"Nice to meet you, Chelsea. I'm Diane and this my husband Daniel."
Diane and Chelsea shook hands.
Duncan's father seemed more excited than his mother.
"You did good on this one, Derek." His father exclaimed.
Derek nodded in pride.
"I'm Duncan, Derek's younger brother. It's nice to meet you."
Duncan and Chelsea shook hands, and he couldn't help but to stare at her.
She had long, brown, wavy hair and her skin was pretty tanned. She had a hourglass shape. Which caught Duncan off guard, mostly because Derek goes for women who are incredibly thin with no curves.
She has a gorgeous smile.
How does a girl like her get with a guy like Derek?
He's a loser.
He shook his thoughts off when his mother asked him to help with the food. Derek and his father were sitting at the table with Chelsea, discussing what sounded like politics.
"Looks like you got a crush." His mother joked.
Duncan scoffed, "Um no. I'm just surprised Derek even got a girl like her."
"What? You don't think Derek can get such pretty girls like you? Honey, you've been gone for a while," she placed a hand on his cheek, "-things have changed for him. He's dated many gorgeous girls since you've been gone." She walked back over to the stove and continued to stir the mashed potatoes.
"Whatever happened to you and Gaby?" His mother asked innocently.
"Oh, we just kinda...spread apart."
Which isn't what happened at all. He couldn't bare tell his mother the embarrassing story.

Four Days Ago

Duncan and Gaby had just finished watching Juno. Which was Gaby's idea (of course). Earlier that day they had went to eat lunch at Menchies together. Everything was going perfectly.
"Remember that time when we were like 12 and we were playing spin the bottle and your mom walked in and started yelling at us?" Gaby gleefully said.
"Of course. You were so nervous, then we heard the door open and I could feel you squirming."
They both busted out laughing.
After everything had gotten quiet again, Gaby looked over at Duncan, staring at him with her big brown eyes.
"Duncan?"
"Yeah?"
"If you didn't leave, what would've happen between us?"
Duncan knew this question was coming. And he didn't exactly know how to answer it.
"Well...I'm not sure, but I do know what I want between us now."
He took her hand, it was cold and clammy.
One hand was squeezing hers, while the other was playing with her hair.
She bit her lip then leaned in, as did he.
Except right before their lips touched, she backed away and started crying.
"What's wrong? Is everything okay?"
"Duncan I can't do this, I'm sorry"
Gaby got up and began walking to her room, that was until Duncan grabbed her arm.
"Gaby, what's wrong?"
"Duncan...I-I..."
"Gaby, it's okay. You can tell me. You can trust me."
She inhaled deeply, then looked him in the eyes.
"I'm lesbian."
He didn't say anything, he just hugged her.

Later that night, nothing special happened. She just told him about how she's been seeing this girl named Bianca, and how she plans to come out to her parents. He was happy for her. She had found someone to make her happy. He pushed his own selfish thoughts aside, and listened to everything.

Currently

"Duncan? I asked if you were coming."
He looked up and saw his mother about to exit the kitchen.
He nodded and caught up with her. He was greeted by Chelsea, who was talking about getting her degree.
"Well, when I graduate high school I-"
Duncan's father cut her off.
"You're in  high school ?"
"Yes, I'll be a senior next year."
Everyone seemed pretty shocked. Derek was 19, which meant he was dating a minor.
"I'm sorry for interrupting you, please continue."
"No it's fine! But anyways, when I graduate high school, I plan to get my law degree. My mother and father are lawyers, so they think very high of me to become one."
Duncan thought it was ironic how Derek, who has been arrested before, is dating someone who accuses people of being guilty for the same things he did.
"How long have you two been seeing each other?" His mother asked.
"Almost 3 months now. I didn't tell you guys before because, well, I thought she was too good for me." Derek laughed along with everyone else.
Duncan couldn't help but continue to stare at Chelsea, she was wearing a navy blue maxi dress, that hugged her body amazingly. He glanced back up at her face, only to find her staring at him back.
Fuck.
Why were you staring at her like that?
You're such a weirdo.
"So what high school do you go to, Chelsea?" Duncan's mother asked.
"Lakewood. It's one of the best schools in the county."
"That's great! Duncan is going to start there as well. It would be nice if you could show him around the school on his first day. You know, if his friends are too busy being hooligans."
His father butted in.
A smile spread across Chelsea's face.
"Yeah, that'd be nice."
