Chapter 14: Sleepness Nights

He had gone nearly 2 weeks without a good nights sleep. He stayed up every single night until 4am, only to feel his heart hurt.

His head was filled with confusion everyday. He didn't know himself. He didn't know who Duncan Charles Moyer was anymore. Who he had became.

It had been 4 years after the night he made that fatal mistake. A small mistake that would have an affect on his life forever. Being an immature thirteen year old has its major cons.

The more he thought about everything, the more depressed and lonely he seemed to get. Chelsea stopped coming over and stopped calling him.

Everything went from being perfect to terrible in the snap of a finger. It was all on him, he thought. The more nights he spent staring at his ceiling the more he realized how badly he fucked up.

Out of all the girls he could've fell in love with, he chose his brothers girlfriend. He just couldn't grasp why, either.

He knew right from wrong, or so he thought.

Just a girl.

He thought.

I won't even remember her in five years.

He thought.

Every night was the same routine. He would eat a bag of chips for dinner, then go back to his room and lock his door, then sulk in his bed.

His thoughts drove him crazy, he could never sleep on command. He was never tired, always seemed like his body rejected the sleep it needed. Just like he's rejected the person he needs.

The bags under his eyes got worse and worse everyday, making him look like a zombie.

Two weeks.

Two weeks had gone by since the kiss and nothing changed. He thought maybe she would leave Derek for him, so they could both be happy. But it was clear she didn't want that.

If she did, she would call. She would come over just so he would have company. But none of that happened, he was still alone.

Donnie would ask and ask him if he wanted to come help at the parlor, but Duncan would have 3 hours of sleep in him, so it wasn't smart to be around needles and ink.

Gaby left for a cruise 4 days after the party, she would be gone till school started. Which was September 5th.

Tate found himself always busy with his new best friend, aka Derek.

Leaving Duncan with no friends, no one to talk to, no one to care for.

Maybe you're just unlikable.

That's why she doesn't want you. You're boring and a total creep.

This is why no one wants you.

Duncan turned over on his side, ignoring the voices yelling at him in his head. He shut his eyes, hoping to drown them out with other thoughts.

As he was slowly drifting off, his phone went off quietly.

He brushed it off and continued to try to sleep, but his phone get going off until the point of making him angry.

Finally when he faced the opposite side table, he saw Derek had texted him 6 times.

pick me up dude

i'm at Tates rn something happened i don't wanna be here anymore

i know you're awake it's only 2 and you fuckin stay up till like 5 so don't gimme that sleep shit now

Duncan finally decided he would respond.

k

He got up and threw on a wife beater and a pair of sweats he found on the floor, that probably hadn't been washed since he came back.

He slowly and quietly snuck down stairs and got the jeep keys and did what he had to do.

He didn't care if his parents caught him, all he was doing was helping out his brother.

When he got to Tate's he saw Derek sitting on the curb infront of his house, holding his bag and rubbing his eye.

Duncan whistled, "Hey! C'mon now i'm tired." he called out.

Derek got up and quickly got into the car. Not saying a word.

Duncan noticed he was more quiet than usual.

"Oh wow! Duncan you're the best little brother ever! Thanks for picking me up in a unfamiliar neighborhood at 2am for no apparent reason." Duncan mocked.

Derek didn't even smile, he just looked down at his feet then out the window.

Duncan could tell something happened but he wasn't sure if he wanted the answer.

"You okay?" Duncan asked.

Derek shrugged, "I guess."

"Is everything with Tate okay?"

Derek's eyes started to swell and his hand started to shake.

"Yes. Everything's good just don't ask me anything else."

Duncan was very confused as to why Derek was acting like this. The only time he'd seen him like this was when he lost in a fight to Harry Garfield, which was the biggest loser in school. He was too upset and angry to admit he had lost, so he just brushed everyone off that adressed it.

But Duncan was too tired to see how beat up Derek actually looked. Like he had been crying for hours until Duncan picked him up.

When they reached their house, Derek didn't say anything to Duncan as he stepped inside the silent home.

Duncan tiredly watched as Derek walked upstairs and locked his bedroom door.

Too tired to care, too tired to see what was happening.
