Chapter 2

Joshs POV
I watched as Maya walked away with howdy next to her, his arm was around her shoulders.

"Don't stare it's rude," Topanga whispered to me.

"I'm not staring. I'm gazing," I rolled my eyes

"I thought she was too young for you."

"She is too young for me! I don't like her what are you talking about!" I say defensively.

"I never said you liked her Josh," Topanga smirked at me.

"Shut up. You can't tell anyone."

"Is that why you've been visiting us so much?"

"Yeah, I mean I love seeing my family, but I really wanted to see Maya."

"And you haven't until now, and she's with Lucas," Topanga finished.

"I'm too late aren't I?"

"Josh you can never be too late. But I would try to keep your jealously on the low. Don't make it so obvious. These kids may seem not as smart as you but some of them piece things together."

"Thanks Topanga," I smile at her.

"Anytime sweetie. Now heads up, here comes lucas now," Topanga warns me before walking away.

"Hey josh!" Lucas grabs my attention.

"Howdy, always a pleasure," I roll my eyes.

"Why are you such a douche to Maya? She doesn't need it." He snaps

I instantly flood with guilt. Did she really think I was a douche to her? My guilt turned to anger.

"Why don't you get back on your horse and ride back to Texas where you're wanted there, and mind your own damn business."

"It is my business when I care deeply about the girl you treat like trash!"

"I don't treat her like trash." I say through gritted teeth.

"Yeah you do! And you should no you missed out on the most amazing girl you will ever meet. You lost the best thing that could ever happen to you!"

I lose it. I knew what I lost and I was trying to get it back.

"You don't think I know that?! You don't think I know that I missed out on someone who makes me forget how to breath when they walk into the room. I know that I missed out on the funniest girl on the planet. Someone who would put my needs before her! I know what I missed out on Howdy! I don't need you reminding me. So just get lost and mind your own damn business!" I snap.

Lucas looks shocked at what I said. He looks down for a second then back at me. No one in the party noticed we were fighting. They were to busy having a good time with their friends. It's silent for a little bit before he speaks.

"I won't say anything," he says

"What?"

"To Maya. I won't say anything."

"Oh uh thanks man."

He nods his head before walking away.

I take a sip of my coke trying to cool myself down. I glance over at Maya sitting at the bay window between Lucas and that Zay kid. She was laughing at something Zay said. She shoved his arm playfully and he laughed along. I look down at my drink trying not to let my jealousy get the best of me.

"You like her." My eyes turn from Maya to her friend Farkle.

"Well hello to you too" I laugh.

"Don't change the topic. You like Maya don't you?"

"I don't know-" he cuts me off.

"I've seen her go through so much pain and disappointment. I'm not going to let her suffer anymore. She deserves to know you like her. I'm not going to sit back and watch you tear yourself apart because she gave up on you. And I'm not gonna watch her pretend to like lucas for Riley. That's why I'm giving you until midnight to tell Maya you like her, or I will." He says

"What do you mean her going through pain and disappointment? What has she gone through?" I demand not even denying I like her.

"That's for her to tell you. But she will only tell her if you tell her you like her."

"She's pretending to like Howdy?"

"You have till midnight or this horn blows." He says before walking away with his girlfriend.

Well crap.

Mayas POV

I sat with Zay and lucas at the bay window. Zay and I were fooling around with each other while Lucas sat in silence. I look over in the kitchen and see Josh talking to Farkle. What do they have in common to talk about?

Zay shoves me and nods his head to Lucas. I look at him and follow his gaze to Riley who is sitting with Charlie.

"Don't you just hate Charlie?" Lucas asks

"Hates a strong word" I say

"That's why I used it. He gets under my skin and I hate him." Lucas gets up and starts walking over to them.

Zay and I shoot up and try to hold him back but fail.

"What is it?" Lucas asks

"It's the couples game. It shows you if you'd be a good couple or not. Riley want to play" Charlie looks dead at lucas.

"Sure," Riley fakes a smile.

"You and me?" Lucas looks at me.

"I mean-" before I can answer he pulls me to the couch.

"Great."

"I guess you're playing then shorty" Zay laughs

I stick my tongue out at him.

Everyone pairs up and Zay and Josh are left.

"Zay be the game show host!" I cheer.

"Well if you insist"

I laugh at him and he starts the game.

Josh sits across from me and just watches is play.

We go around in a circle and answer questions about your partner. Lucas and Charlie became competitive quickly.

"what is your partners favorite movie snack?" Zay asks

"Chocolate" Riley answers.

Charlie then goes on to explain this whole thing Riley does in the movie and then lucas cuts him off. I look at Zay and roll my eyes and he laughs.

"It's not your turn friar!" Charlie yells

"That wasn't the question Gardner!" Lucas yells back.

"Next question!" I say to Zay

"But they haven't finish-"

"Next. Question." I repeat and Zay seems to understand.

"What is your relationship like? Library or campfire?"

"Well um you know." Lucas grabs the card and eats it.

"Lucas it's just a game don't take it so seriously!" I laugh.

"Maya! Can you love two people at the same time?"

My heart drops. I look and lucas and then at Josh. Josh was already looking at me and lucas was looking at Riley.

"I um" I start

"Next question!" Farkle cheers.

Zay moves on and I let out a breath. Josh looks a little disappointed I never answered.

This night is off to a great start.
