I ran into the foyer. I had no time to catch my breath because straight away my mum grabbed me and dragged me into the kitchen. Sydney was on the floor with a tiny foetus in her hands and there was blood everywhere. I fell to my knees and pulled my sister close to me. Even though it was the baby of a scum bag Sydney still felt connected to it. She looked up at me, tears rolled down her face.
"I was going to keep the baby." She sobbed. I wasn't even shocked or angry. I took the dead baby in my hands and wrapped it in a piece of tissue. I took Sydney and cleaned her up and lied in my bed with her.
"I'm sorry I tried to get you to abort the baby." I said.
"It's fine, any normal person would." She whispered back.
"I'm sorry I wasn't here for you."
"It's fine, you are now." She nestled her head into my shoulder and we fell asleep like this.
I woke up to a message from Tyler. 'Hey is everything okay? You left really quickly last night.' I just replied with:
'I'll tell you about it next time I see you.'
As always he replied quite fast. 'Okay, see you soon then.' I locked my phone and slid out of bed. Sydney was still asleep. I went down to the kitchen and made some coffee, my mum was sat at the counter just staring at the wooden jewellery box containing the baby.
"Hey mum, you okay?" I asked.
"Well not really."
"Why?"
"Because my 15 year old daughter got raped, got pregnant and lost the baby all in the space of 1 month and I could have prevented it."
"Nobody could have prevented it."
"I'm her mum I should of been there!" I saw she was crying and I just held her tight.
"Well you can be there for her now, when she really needs it." She looked up and smiled at me and I wiped away her tears.
Sydney was standing in the doorway with her arms crossed just looking at us sadly. We invited her to join in the hug.
"I love you guys." She announced. "Thank you for everything."
