Chapter 17

Tyler's tour had finally finished and I had hardly spoken to him since that night. I moved out of my childhood home and into my own apartment; it was closer to Tyler and had a view of the beach.
I spoke to my mum about what really happened with my dad and he was telling the truth. I had no way of contacting him but a couple of months ago I had a box of his stuff delivered to me and a note from him. It read:

Dear Aspen,
I'm sorry I haven't been there for you. I never forgot about you. I tried to get a hold of you but your mum never let me. I'm so happy I got to see you before I went. I have a few things to say. Sydney is not my daughter; your mum had an affair but I stuck around for you. I found your phone number on Facebook and that is how I called you. A few weeks after the phone call I was admitted to hospital because I have cancer.... Brain cancer. Your mum gave me your address and that is how this letter got to you. In the box there is a few memories of ours that I kept to remember you by. There are birthday cards and presents I wanted to send you but your mum would always send them back. I love you Aspen. I'll be waiting for you in heaven.

I didn't leave my house for weeks. I may not have thought that much of him growing up but right then I knew he was the best dad in the world.
Honestly I was really excited to see Tyler. I was going to surprise him at the airport.

I was waiting at the gate for him and I realised I was not wearing my engagement ring. I didn't even know if we were still engaged. I stood thinking about what happened and I didn't even realise the gates had opened.
"Pen!?" Shouted a familiar voice. I looked up and saw him. I saw Tyler.
I ran over to him with my arms wide. He seemed reluctant to hug me. I pulled away confused and the next thing I knew this random girl was holding Tyler's hand. He looked at me apologetically and walked away with her. I was left at the gate completely shocked, unable to move.
"Hey." Said another familiar voice and I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up and it was Josh!
"Josh!" I turned and wrapped my arms around him and he lifted me up. I felt like my big brother just got back from war.
"I've missed you." He said putting me down.
"I've missed you too." We started walking together.
"So who was that girl?" I asked trying to get as much information out as possible.
"Just some girl Tyler has been seeing for a couple of weeks." I stopped in my tracks and looked at Josh with my mouth hanging open. "Hey don't look too shocked it's nothing serious."
"I thought we were still together."
"Well he thought otherwise and rebounded hard." I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"I'm sorry I'm gonna go." I said. I walked to my car and just sat there staring into space.
I still loved him and I still wanted to marry him.
