Chapter 8 (The Invitation)

Courtney had gone to bed that night thinking about him. She knew that he'd probably never go for someone like her, and not just considering the age difference, although she, herself, wasn't too sure on how big of a difference their was. Still, she thought, maybe when she's older.

She had slept in that morning, not getting up until the sun shined his beautiful smile into her room, blinding her eyes. She moaned and groaned, but did get up heading to the shower. She needed one after yesterday. They were in the sun for hours and done some of the activities that had her sweating like a freshly soaked mop.

She eyed around the house as best she could on her way to the bathroom, and she noticed a note on the counter of the kitchen, probably reading along the lines of, 'Morning sweety, we gone out to ear, or to shop, and will be back in a few hours, love mother' 'cause that is what those usually were when Courtney reads them. Knowing what it meant, she continued her way to the shower. This time, she took her longest shower yet, enjoying every second of it, too.

Finally, she read the note,

Morning Sweety,

Grandmother, Lance, and I have gone into town for some goodies, and than off to the park, hopefully we'll see you soon!

Love, Mother

"Dang, I wanna go to the park." She said looking at herself, wondering if she should change. She did.

She changed into a pair of short shorts, but hers weren't the ones that were too short where your ass is hanging out of them, these covered her butt almost perfectly, to were you could see the perfect curves of it; going with that was her neon blue tank top that hugged her curves, and you could see her love handles, but just barely, they were small, yet noticeable. Finally, her blue Nike shoes. She was ready.

She put Bobby on his leash and started walking towards the park. Bobby was super happy about it, he was wagging his tail almost non stop. As they were walking, reaching the last block, Ruthy called out her name, and ran up to her.

"Hey Ruthy, whatcha doing?" Courtney asked still walking.

"Well, I came to surprise you, but I guess this works, too!"

"I'm going to the park, my family is apparently there. Want to come join me on this final journey?" Courtney asked, looking over to smile sheepishly at Ruthy.

"I swear you're the biggest dork I know, but yeah, I'd love too!" She replied sticking her arm through hers, and walking the final half block to the park.

Right when they came into view they were waved over where Courtney's family were. They were sitting on the ground watching the hot dog eating contest. She didn't know the people competing but she did sit down with the rest of them and watched. Bobby had gone and laid on top of Courtney's' lap, closing his eye lids and slipping off into slumber.

"Ruthy... Do you know who that guy is?" Courtney asked nodding her head in his general direction.

Ruthy followed her nod and instantly knew who she was talking about. He was a good looking guy, he's been here since she could remember. Not her type but still pretty attractive.

"He's about 23, he's dating this girl, uhm, I think her name is Tabatha, they've been together for years though. He's kind of short though."

"He is, but he's just damn." Courtney couldn't deny it, she was upset, she'd crushed hard on him, and she's only talked to him once, and just meant him yesterday.

"Oh, Courtney, you think you could get me a bottle water?" Ruthy asked smirking a little.

Ruthy watched Courtney slowly walk up to the stand where he was working. His whole face seemed to brighten when he saw Courtney walking over. No one could of missed it, Ruthy didn't. Ruthy could see them being together, if maybe she was older, and they had meant years ago, before Tabatha.

"Hey, Welcome, what'd you like?" He asked smiling.

"Bottle water, please." She replied.

"Just water?"

"Yes sir."

He looked at her, like really looked at her, trying to remember this moment for a long time. She looked amazing, as if someone had dumped a boat load of amazingness all over her. He didn't understand what was going on with his feelings, but damn she was beautiful. He mentally shook his head, trying to regain his thoughts.

"You okay? Looked a little zoned out."

"Sorry, I was, but it normally doesn't happen.. Hey, Courtney,-" Sadly he was cut off.

"Baby!" A girl, Courtney assumed was Tabatha, came and kissed him on the cheek.

"Oh hey, Tabatha this is Courtney, she just moved here a few days ago.." He replied wrapping his arm around her.

"It's nice to meet you. I'm Tabatha, but you know that already, " She glanced at Adin. "I just wanted to let you know that we'll be eating at the diner when you get off just head straight there."

"I might shower first, but alright, I'll meet you there." He gave her a kiss goodbye, and returned his attention to Courtney.

"She's pretty." Courtney said and meant it. She was.

"Thanks." He replied.

A few moments lasted between them before she was called away from him. He watched her walk away, like last time, but this time their wasn't a guy she was going to. What made him wonder even more was the way Tabatha had acted towards him. She was sweet to him, and not being mean. Lately, the past few months, they just seem to be arguing about everything, and her just complaining about how he is.

'Wonder what she's up to.' He thought to himself.

Courtney handed over Ruthys water, and sat down beside her.

"Think he might like you." She finally said breaking the silence.

"Well, even so, he has Tabatha."

"Cookie!" McDonald yelled, making his way towards them, and sitting down with them.

"You are?" Ruthy asked narrowing her eyebrows together and giving him a look over.

"I'm Bruce, uhm, Courtneys friend.." He replied.

"His name is McDonald." Courtney said giving him a playful glare.

"It's not, actually, was wondering what everyone was doing tonight."

"Nothing, probably watching movies, sleeping, the usual loner life things." Courtney replied, getting a light hit to the leg from Ruthy.

"Well, if you guys aren't doing anything, I know where a party is going to be, and I thought maybe you guys would like to come."

"We'd love too!" Ruthy answered before Courtney could even process the question.

"Great, come to my place at 9 and I'll bring yous over there."

Ruthy and Courtney stared at him in awe, as if this was the greatest and most horrifying thing to have happen to them.  They'd never been invited to a party before, they've both were quite the drinkers, and could easily hold their liquor, but to be actually, physically been invited just astonished them. They looked at each other, both thinking the same thing, they get up and walk to Courtneys' house, it was closer than Ruthys house, and easier for them too.

"We're going to a party." Ruthy said once they had finished walking the one block out of the three.

"Yeah, we are." Courtney replied.
