ACT 20
Katarina tugged on one of her sleeves unconsciously in a form of anxiety as she walked into the apartment lobby. She had left her motorcycle at the estate and decided to walk to her destination.
It gave her a reasonable time to think about her decision and if she should go through with asking Ashe about this mystery girl named 'Quinn'. Even though she knew she's just going to ask, she's quite afraid that Ashe might see it as a form of confrontation.
Hopefully, Ashe doesn't look at it that way, she had thought.
She reached forward to push the button of the elevator but abruptly stopped, her fingertip an inch away fron the metal button.
"Push the button." She whispered to herself, urging herself to do the action. "Push the damn button...-!"
Ding!
Katarina took a reflexive step back as the elevator doors slid open, revealing none other than her beautiful girlfriend. And her cousins, as well. Lissandra and Sejuani stood on either sides of Ashe, exchanging small talk.
Lissandra wore a semi business-like outfit, while Ashe and Sejuani wore casual sets of clothing.
Ashe's eyes mildly widened in recognition. "Oh, Katarina, hi."
"Hey," She greeted back with a small wave, stuffing her hands in her pockets.
"We're off," Lissandra said, nodding her head in a form of excusing themselves.
"Yeah," Sejuani gave Ashe a brief wave. "See ya later."
Ashe waved goodbye to her cousins and let them exit the lift first before exiting it herself.
"Katarina," Ashe greeted, nodding her head.
"Ashe," She greeted back, copying the acknowledging nod.
"Is there something you need?" Ashe asked as she made her way past Katarina, out of the lobby and to the parking lot outside connected to the property.
"Not really," Katarina murmured, suddenly feeling... weird. The tone Ashe used on her, it somewhat bothered her. Her voice sounded controlled and formal.
'Where the hell did this sudden awkwardness come from?' She thought. 'It's like we're both back to square one.'
"I was wondering if you want to go somewhere today. Maybe a walk in the park or something like that." She ended up muttering her last words.
Ashe sighed and shook her head. "Listen, Katarina, I have to go and take care of a few errands of mine. It's sudden, I know and I'm really sorry. Can I take a rain check for now?"
Katarina fought the urge to frown. Instead, she plastered a fake understanding smile. "Yeah, no, it's fine, actually."
"Thank you, Kat." Ashe flashed a thankful smile before she reached forward, stroked Katarina's cheek and planted a sweet kiss on her lips.
Katarina responded to the kiss before Ashe pulled away and headed to her Porsche, leaving her wanting a little more. She waited at the driveway entrance of the lot, wanting to wave goodbye to her lover when she drives out.
She averted her gaze away fron Ashe when she heard the hum of an engine behind her. She turned and found a dark blue Land Range Rover sliding in an idle park beside the sidewalk.
The engine was soon turned off and the door at the driver's side was pushed open, Lux's older brother, Garen, stepping out of the vehicle. Katarina's presence, as expected, does not go unnoticed by the male Crownguard.
