A few minutes passed before I decided to get up and go eat. I walked out of my room, my stomach growling in the process. The table was already set up with two plates of french toast, eggs, and bacon. The smell was intoxicating. It reminded me of when my dad would cook elaborate breakfasts with a bunch of different foods for my mom and me. Kyle was already sitting at the table, taking a big bite of eggs.

"Breakfast for dinner?" I asked, faking a smile.

"I never learned how to cook so this is the best we're getting." He grinned.

I slowly took a seat across from him, my mind thinking about our previous conversation. By the intense look on his face, it was obvious he was thinking about it too. My only question was did he actually believe what I had said? Kyle was impossible to read so who knew what actually was running through his head about our conversation. I nervously played with my food before eating it. We awkwardly ate in silence before he finally spoke.

"I have to run some errands. And since I can't trust you to be left alone and you've proven that escaping from the bedroom was possible, I'm locking you in the basement." He said.

"You can trust me." I said, almost believing myself.

He chuckled and gave me a "do you think I'm stupid" look. The truth was that I didn't plan on trying to escape again any time soon. Not after what happened to Robbins and since the last time was a failure. I wanted him to trust me, even though that would take a long time. If I had to wait, I would. I just need for Robbins and me to stay alive at this point.

"Not after you tried to escape." He said. "Do you need anything from the store?" He added.

I shook my head no. Kyle had the bathroom filled with toiletries and everything I'd need. The only thing I needed was more clothes but I felt weird asking him to buy me clothes. What I really needed was to be free but he wouldn't give me that. So many questions raced through my mind. How could I escape? When would I do it? How could I get Kyle to trust me more? I noticed that Kyle was staring at me suspiciously and I glanced down at my food and then back at him.

"What are you thinking about?" He asked.

"Um, nothing. I just zoned out." I lied.

Kyle chuckled softly and said, "When you're in a deep thought your face shows it. It's extremely cute, but it does tell me now that you are lying."

"Can I tell you something?" I asked, hoping that if I open up more, he will begin to trust me.

"Of course, anything." He said, taking a bite of bacon.

"I want this to work out but I'm too scared. I want you to trust me. Everything I have done is because of fear." I admitted. It wasn't necessarily a lie but it wasn't the whole truth either.

          "Your point is?" He asked.

"I want to earn your trust. Please let me make it up to you." I begged.

"What do you have in mind?" He asked, taking my finished plate and his over to the sink.

"Let me stay out of the basement. Let me prove to you that I can be left here alone and won't try anything. You can even call Dole and have him secretly watch the house if you want too. I won't try and escape. I promise you, I want you to trust me." I begged him.

He glanced up from the dishes and stared at me with those big blue eyes. He was actually considering it. I knew it was a long shot since it hadn't even been twenty-four hours since I last tried to escape but it was worth a shot. He walked back over to the table and took a seat next to me this time.

"You know what, I'll take you up on your offer. I'll be gone for a few hours and I may or may not call Dole to check on you. The whole house will be locked up and if you try to escape, I'll know." He said, seriousness in his eyes.

"You don't have to worry about that. I'll behave." I said.

He stared at me for a few seconds, trying to see if I was lying or tricking him. I wasn't though; I planned to stay put so I could earn his trust and maybe make everything a little better for me to escape when the time comes. I'm thinking about the future rather than the present.

"Kelly, if you try anything I will seriously make your life a living hell. I will kill your aunt, uncle, Maddie, Robbins, everyone you care about. Don't make me regret giving you this chance." He threatened.

            "I won't." I said.

"Robbins better be in the basement when I return or the same consequences will happen. There aren't any phones or electronics that you can use to call for help so don't even try. If anything is messed up when I get back, you'll be sorry." He threatened.

It was obvious he didn't like threatening me like this but I knew he had too. The thing was, I couldn't care any less about his threats. If I really wanted to escape, I would try it. He didn't control me. I am just choosing not to escape yet. I've been through Hell and back so his beatings meant nothing to me anymore. I was worried he'd kill someone I love but he's already killed Ethan and my parents. I didn't want to add to that list.

             "Okay." I said softly.

I stood up and went to walk to the living room when Kyle stopped me. He stared at me for a moment, scanning my body, making me feel somewhat self-conscious. He caressed my cheek causing me to look away from him. He grabbed my chin and forced me to look up at him, making me feel awkward. I know I had faked kissing him before, but now was different.

He slowly leaned closer to me and I knew what was coming. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. Should I let him kiss me or move away? I wasn't sure what to do so instincts took over. He leaned in but I turned so that he kissed my cheek. I felt his hands wrap around my waist, pulling me closer to him.

"Now you're going to be a tease?" He asked grinning.

I grinned slightly and said, "I don't know what you are talking about."

"You're so beautiful. I don't know what I would do without you." He whispered in my ear, causing me to shiver.

He finally released me from his embrace and walked off to get changed. I walked over to the living room and turned on the TV. I turned on Netflix and started to flip through endless amounts of shows and movies. There was no cable so I wasn't able to check the news. All of the internet features on the TV were blocked as well. Kyle came out a few minutes later and headed to the door. I heard the door open and that's when I turned to look at him. He smiled softly before saying, "I'm trusting you here, don't make me regret it. I love you, Sweetie."

"I'll behave, don't worry." I said, giving him a smile.

He nodded and exited the house. I was now alone. Once I knew he was gone, I would explore the house and try to find other ways to escape for future knowledge. I wouldn't escape but just look. I really needed Kyle to trust me. I focused on the TV, wanting to forget about everything else for a few minutes. I was still shocked Kyle actually let me stay here alone, not locked up. Hopefully, this was the first step in gaining my freedom.
