The world was created by 4 gods. The God of water, fire, earth, and air. Together they all put in half of their power to create earth. It left then in a weakened state. As humans started to inhabit the world they created it became quite apparent that humans are unable to govern themselves. The humans were starting wars, splitting apart and fighting their closest allies. The gods knew they had to stop it at once, but they were still in a weakened state and unable to travel to earth. They decided that they would each choose one human they thought worthy of their powers and give them their remaining powers. This of course meant the gods wouldn't have enough powers to continue living. The gods themselves inhabited the humans they chose as worthy, giving the 4 humans powers equal to that of a god. They only difference was that the humans were not immortal. When the chosen 4 humans died they were reincarnated and passed their powers of the gods down to the person next in line. The gods couldn't accept this. They didn't choose these people, they chose the original. They were unacceptable of the reincarnations because they weren't who they chose. They gods decided they would just sit back and let fate take the reign. The reincarnations were known as mages. All together there are 4 mages now. Their social status used to be equal to that or higher to the Kings. But somewhere along the way, Kings started to track down the mages and used them as slaves. The 4 mages just accepted that was the way of life and just Lived put their lives as slaves. The gods were furious. How dare the humans they let inhabit their world great the gods so terribly. They decided it was time to take action but were too weak from sitting dormant for centuries, all they could do was sit and watch. Now a days the 4 mages are just known as legends, a myth that never existed. Some kings devoted their entire lives to proving their existence real and finding them, while other Kings went on as though they never existed at all
