Katherine’s POV
“I thought it would be easy. I didn’t think anyone would miss me,” Tess explained.
We all sat around in a circle. Talking about what we had planned. Dr. Calloway sat and talked to us, we were supposed to be listening to each other. I could tell Gwen could’ve cared less and zoned out, or stared at something.
“Is that what happened?” Dr. C continued to ask.
“There were a lot of people that came to the hospital,” Tess added.
“Do you regret anything?” Dr. C pushed. Tess shifted in her seat, an uncomfortable action. Dr. Calloway picked up on it and started questioning another person.
“So Alicia, how have you been?”
I had only saw Alicia a few times; she rarely interacted with the rest of us. She kept quite when she was around us. Joanna had told me Alicia was here before any of the other girls. Apparently Alicia was bullied as a child. The bullies pushed her to far one day, she had just had enough. She was eating lunch one day and grabbed a hand full of assorted nuts. Her allergic reaction caught everyone by surprise and she was rushed to hospital.
“Fine,” she shortly replied.
“Have you drawn anything lately?” Alicia nodded.
“Can we see?” Johanna asked. Alicia looked around at all of us, like we were going to judge her drawings. But really we were in no place to judge anyone, because we knew how it felt. Alicia huffed as she rose from her chair. When she returned she rudely handed the sketch book to Zoe.
Zoe was the youngest, only 15 she tried to commit suicide. She is painfully shy and very timid. She had blonde hair, with blue and purple tips. Her big brown eyes widen as she turned the page.
“Alicia these are, really good,” Zoe said just above a whisper.
“Let me see,” Tess said as Zoe passed her the book. The sketch book had been viewed by everyone, everyone except me. I was amazed by how detailed and well shaded each photo was.
“These are amazing,” Dr. Calloway said handing the book back to its rightful owner. Alicia shrugged, not agreeing with everyone. Dr. Calloway left shortly after, wishing us all a good night.
I started wandering around the floor, heading nowhere in particular. I was coming close to the doors, and would have to turn back soon. But someone caught my eye. Alicia was sitting by the window, staring out to the snow covered canvas.
“Hey,” my voice cracked as I approached her. She didn’t turn to acknowledge me as I took a seat next to her, “You’re drawings were really nice.”
“Thanks,” she sighed.
“Is everything alright?” I asked the stressed girl. She turned to me and gave me the crudes look, before getting up and walking away.
Harry’s POV
I don’t know why I feel guilty, I want this. I’ve worked for this. This is what I’ve been dreaming of since I was little. Katherine would be happy for me; she would probably encourage me to go. There’s a little voice inside of me saying the complete opposite. She wants me here with her, she wants me to visit her every day and help her get better.
Just as I was starting to dodge out from under the cloud that has been hanging over my head ever since I saw her lying on the bathroom floor, it creeps back over my head. It bugged me that I haven’t heard from Clive since he told me she was being moved in to a psych. I don’t even know if I can visit her.
Once again a war is going on in my head. I’m leaving in a few days; I’m going to be gone for five months. I wasn’t thinking straight when I agreed to that, I was thinking it would help get the ball rolling, I would start to live again. I thought I might be able to get out of the dumps I’ve been in. Signing that paper has caused me to suffer for a colossal amount of stress.
I really want to go, I want to continue to travel the world and experience new things, but I don’t want to leave her here. I have no choice though. If I did have a choice, her luggage would already be on the plane. She would have so much fun; she would see all the perks in life, beautiful and meaningful things to live for.
I can’t put this off any longer, I need to tell her. I need to see her. I grabbed my keys and got in to the car. I had driven down this street countless times and I’d never noticed the psych sitting behind the trees.
The warmth of the building hits my frost bit nose and cheeks. My nerves seemed to drop when I approached the front desk. I told the young women I was there to see Katherine. She was more than happy to lead me down a hall, at the end was like as living room. There were a few chair scattered, a couch sat across from a television.
“What are you doing here?” I didn’t recognize the voice. I turned around. She’s the last person I expected to see.
“Alicia?” I couldn’t believe my eyes.
“Couldn’t get enough?” her lower lip began to quiver.
“No I’m not here because of you,” I said quietly, “I know someone who’s in here and I need to see them.”
“Who?” a girl with red hair asked.
“Katherine,” I replied.
"Is she in here because of you to?" Alicia asked.
"No of coarse not," I quickly replied.
“She’s down there,” Alicia pointed down a hall to my left. She began to back away. I watched as she retreated to her room. I hadn’t seen her in years. Seeing her brought back so many memories, very bad and dark memories.
She was the one obstacle that stood in my way from my image in one direction. If she hadn’t made a deal with management, I would be hated by millions instead of loved. Girls wouldn’t look at me the same.
