A chill set in as Fallingpaw arrived in the camp; water dripped off her body as she sat down under the shadeof the medicine den tree with Yellowpaw.

"What is that smell Yellowpaw?"

"It's me, Riverstone took me tothe swampy marshes." Meowed Yellowpaw trying to get the scentoff herself.

"I can't wait to sleep in the den!" Chirped Fallingpaw shaking the water off her tail.

"You two, go eat some fresh kill" interrupted Riverstone "Remember you two are doing a vigil tonight."

"It isn't going to be that bad Fallingpaw, its just staying awake all night." mewed Yellowpaw grabbing a vole from the pile.

"You can say that, but you have fur, that keeps you warm. While I have just bare skin, It's going to be freezing!" Argued Fallingpaw as she took a bite out of a bird.

"Right, look Fallingpaw there's Flamepaw! Hey, Flamepaw come sit with us!" Shouted Yellowpaw lashing her tail excitedly in the air.

Flamepaw trotted to the fresh kill pile dropping some of the prey he caught and joined Yellowpaw and Fallingpaw with Lizardpaw and Tanglepaw behind.

"Hey rat and Yellowpaw..."meowed Tanglepaw being cut off by Yellowpaw's hiss.

"No cat called my littermate a Rat!" Hissed Yellowpaw raking her claws down Tanglepaw's muzzle. Instantly Tanglepaw tried to return a blow only to be interrupted yet again by his mentor Pinepelt.

"Tanglepaw! Look after the elders this instant, I heard they have ticks!" Ordered Pinepelt, leading the annoying apprentice to the elder's den keeping an eye on him.

"Sorry about Tanglepaw, Fallingpaw." Apologised Lizardpaw

"So what did you two do today?"Questioned Flamepaw

"Well I went to the Swamp, its really muddy from the rain, and smelly" replied Yellowpaw instantly

"I was in the forest" mewed Fallingpaw, "where did you two go?"

"Lizardpaw and I were near the mountains, looking for prey."

The four continued to chat around the tree until the moon started to raise its head. Yellowpaw and Fallingpaw leave the two and exit the camp and sat down across from each other.

The sun dipped behind the leader's den, turning the river orange, like fire. Snow sprinkled onto the ground, the breeze from the sea created a chilling strong salty breeze surrounding the camp. Fallingpaw and Yellowpaw sat in silence as the snow flurried past.

It just turned Moonhigh Fallingpaw was almost frozen solid with the snow, pawsteps approached the wisteria covered exit. Foxstripe held wads of moss under her chin, and in her jaws, Yellowpaw sat in the snow, covered in white specks.

"I thought you would be struggling in this cold Fallingpaw, I bought you some moss to try keep you warm, and some honey for your cough" meowed Foxstripe covering Fallingpaw in moss and giving her a piece of moss dipped in Honey.

After Foxstripe had left the time flew by faster than the ever-gushing breeze, the snow blanketed the meadow and capped the mountains. The sound of birds chirping echoed through the clearing all the way to the camp, the ever flowing rumble of the waterfall could not be missed, as the sun rose with triumph. Thevigil was over, and the two apprentices couldn't wait to see their dens.

They approached the camps entrance moss in mouth, and their tired eyes wide open. Yellowpaw and Fallingpaw walk with their head low and heavy to the fresh kill. Yellowpaw selects a squirrel and sits down near the pile too tired to move further away Fallingpaw joined her littermate with a mouse, the two smell the prey and licked their muzzles beginning to gulp down their prey within a few heartbeats filling their growling stomachs'.

"I'm so tired," remarked Fallingpaw shivering with the sea breeze.

"So am I, let's look at the dens and then we should sleep" Mewed Yellowpaw as she rose to her paws picking up the extra moss for Fallingpaw's soon to be nest.

Yellowpaw lead her littermate into a rabbit hole by the river across from the stump. The scent and sounds of apprentices sleeping filled Yellowpaw and Fallingpaw's ears, the two walk along the edge of the den looking for two empty nests.Fallingpaw curled up beside her littermate blanketed in moss to keep her warm from the chilling draft that came down from the hole.

"That vigil was so tiresome and boring" whispered Fallingpaw.

"I want to sleep Fallingpaw"grumbled Yellowpaw lowering her head into her front paws.

"Be quiet Rat and Cat. I want to sleep in!" Hisses Tanglepaw from across some nests.

"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the nest" murmured Yellowpaw close to Fallingpaw's ears.

The sound of the water dripped through the moss covered dens. Creating a small puddle of fresh cold water that ran beside all the nests.

Fallingpaw rose to her feet her body was relaxed and well rested, she padded out of the den trying not to wake her littermate who was asleep, she trots up the hole happily. The salty breeze raced past; the sky was covered by glooming clouds. Fallingpaw stretched out her back and her legs; she tastes the air for her mentor Rabbitsong's scent.

"Looking for me Fallingpaw?" Mewed Rabbitsong as she groomed her fur.

"I am! What are we doing?" Questioned Fallingpaw.

"The marshes." Mewed Rabbitsong padding out of the camp with Fallingpaw a tail length away.

The sun was high in the sky, the smell of the marshes filled Fallingpaw's nose, the small river drifts past the muddy soil, the croaking of frogs could not be missed. She plunged her paws into the icy cold water, quickly to get out and into the muddy ground, her paws sunk in the mud being enveloped in the thick ooze. Immediately she raised her bare tail away from the mud keeping it dry. Trees grew from out of the mud; their roots were high like they were protecting their bellies from the mud, they have very few leaves, their bark was hard and flakey.

"Keep your claws sheathed Falligpaw; it will make moving harder with unsheathed claws" mewed Rabbitsong

"Yes, Rabbitsong!" Chirped Fallingpaw

The frogs were silent as Rabbitsong made a weird chittering sound, her tail beckoned Fallingpaw to be quiet and not to move, a few heartbeats pass and the same sound could be heard from some badger lengths away. Rabbitsong's tail went down as she looked at Fallingpaw.

"Let's return to camp, there is a patrol hunting in these marshes" informed Rabbitsong in a quiet mew turning around to the stream, "you have to jump over the creek Fallingpaw."

Rabbitsong bunched down her muscles, staying low into the mud and sprung over the creek effortlessly, Fallingpaw looked in the eyes of her mentor and then back to the stream, she quivered nervously then crouched like Rabbitsong and bounds over the stream with her eyes closed, as she jumped she let her muscles relax as she felt the wind on her skin, before she knew she was tumbling on the grass leaving a muddy trail of her flailing paws and tail with her skinny body.

"What a landing! No wonder you are called Fallingpaw!" Exclaimed Rabbitsong racing over to her apprentice. Fallingpaw slowly got up shaking off the remnants of mud from her body.

"I think I hurt my hind leg Rabbitsong" mewed Fallingpaw keeping her right back leg off the ground.

"Starclan please help me"muttered Rabbitsong under her breath leading Fallingpaw towards camp."If it isn't one thing it's another."
