Fallingpaw rose to her paws, her thirst was sickening and dry, she began padding through the forest in search of water, her mouth felt like it was full of salty sand. Her back burned from the heat of the sun, Fallingpaw moved into the shade of the canopy of branches and continued walking. Fallingpaw blank unwavering, checking that her eyes weren't fooling her. Before her very paws shimmered a large water bed, water birds guzzled down into the water with a brilliant sheen of feathers then back out with a plump fish in their beaks. She padded down to the pebbly bank and lapped at the water as it, in turn, lapped at her paws, its water was cold and refreshing. Fallingpaw sunk onto the pebbles relaxing as the water enveloped her and then receded slowly, she dabbed her paw into the water and watched her pale shimmery reflection tremble, Fallingpaw's quench was filled, and she was relaxed like she was when she was home at cliffclan.
Yellowpaw rose to her feet with pale beams of sunlight blinded her for a few heartbeats as she rose to her paws and smelt the air for Fallingpaw's scent yet again there it was stale, Yellowpaw began to follow the weak scent into another canopy of trees. The further Yellowpaw went the stronger her sister's scent got, "surely she is close by, it's like I'm sharing a nest with her yet again." Yellowpaw could just make out a shape that would have made a perfect nest up in the trunk of the elm tree that had branches coil up into the reaches of the sky leaving its cut trunk empty with moss but safely protected. Upon closer inspection, there was the strong stench of Fallingpaw, and it was fresh too, Yellowpaw's heart exploded out of her chest as she followed another trail of her sister's scent, there was the calming sound of water and of birds chirping. Yellowpaw walked further towards the water, the trees began to thin out with the exception of some giant old trees that loomed over the sun blocking out its old rays with giant leaves. The blue reflecting water dazzled into the sky Yellowpaw could just see Fallingpaw's small frame on the pebble covered bed. Happiness welled in Yellowpaw's heart.
"Fallingpaw!" Yowled Yellowpaw over the pounding sound of her heart beating in her head. She could just see Fallingpaw's head perked up and her ears twitch around frantically, Yellowpaw pounded down to the bank sliding to a halt on the slippery pebbles and getting whisked away by a current of water.
Fallingpaw leapt to her paws, her mouth was wide open like it was going to catch every fly to feed the clan, she then jumped into the water and strode out to where Yellowpaw was flailing helplessly in the shallow water. "Stand up!" Hissed Fallingpaw through clenched teeth as she floated back and forth with the water. Yellowpaw looked over her shoulder to her sister and stood up in shock
"It's not deep" Stuttered Yellowpaw in shock as she rose to her paws. "How did you know it wasn't?"
"You want to talk about water, which is something you hate?" Snorted Fallingpaw as she meowed in amusement.
Yellowpaw began to bound out of the water and then paused at the bank as her sister slowly wadded through the water "why did you leave the human's place?" Questioned Yellowpaw as she looked intently into the gaze of her sister's yellow eyes as they drifted away and then back to Yellowpaw's.
"Because the humans aren't what they seem, and they aren't home" stated Fallingpaw as she wadded onto the pebbled bank next to her sister. "More importantly we should be looking for Timberkit and Smokebreeze! Don't think I would back out of our promise!" Purred Fallingpaw as she leant her head on her sister's shoulder, smoothing out the fur that was sticking up.
"I'm sorry Fallingpaw, leaving you alone in the human's den. I shouldn't have done that, and I shouldn't have acted so selfishly." Yellowpaw bowed her head in apology
"nope. Deep down we would have butted heads if we stayed there, we did twice when we were! It made us into cats who weren't us, lazy, bored cats. We aren't like them, we thrive for living in the wild. You don't need to apologise, we aren't the same cat, we travel different paths, and that's all to it. We make our own choices" Mewed Fallingpaw.
"You sure you weren't a Medicine cat in your past life?" Queried Yellowpaw jokingly
"I was in Foxstripe's den long enough to get used to her getting angry at other cats" admitted Fallingpaw. "I'll catch us a fish?"
Yellowpaw nodded happily as she watched her sister swim out into the water then dive into the water head first. A few heartbeats later Fallingpaw bobs up from the water with a fish clasped in her jaws tightly as it flopped around, Fallingpaw threw the fish over to the pebbles letting it bounce around for air. Fallingpaw shook off the water on her whiskers and sat down beside Yellowpaw and shared the fish.
The sun dipped down low into the trees that loomed far off into the distance, Yellowpaw's stomach was well fed, and she felt exhausted as she watched the sun turn the water orange and yellow. "What do you think we should do?" Yellowpaw turned and faced her head to her sister who laid down with her head on her paws.
"I think we should go undercover in that rogue group, see if they know any cat of Smokebreeze and Timberkit's description. Do you know where they live?" Suggested Fallingpaw as she flicked her tail back and forth.
"Yes, I walked into one of their borders when I was by myself in the forest, I think their meow is worse than their claws." Informed Yellowpaw "but I don't think we should use our warrior names."
"You mean, be someone who we aren't?" interrupted Fallingpaw, Yellowpaw gave her a quick nod "I like the sound of that, Buttercup" Fallingpaw let a glint of amusement glimmer through her eyes.
Fallingpaw climbed up into her nest tree showing Yellowpaw. The two curled up in the soft moss falling asleep safe and protected from the elements.
