"Wrong! You need to keep your belly closer to the ground and your paws lighter then falling leaves! You will catch no prey like that!" Hissed Riverstone as she lashed her tail back and forth. "Look at my stance! You have to relax your muscles, focus your attention of not what you are hunting but of what is around you! Tail down!"
"Like this Riverstone?" Mewed Yellowpaw as she got lower to the ground touching her belly on the scuffed up dirt.
"No. No. No!" Hissed Riverstone as she knocked Yellowpaw's paws to the correct stance"That is how it should be. Now leap!" Instantly Yellowpaw pounced off the ground landing a few fox-lengths away kicking up aswirl of dust. "Now keep going until it's drilled into your head."
The wind howled through Cliffclan.
Cats' huddled together under the leader's den, protected from the strong gale. Cheering fired into the camp as Orchidstar exited her den and into the open."Today is an important day that can make a noble cat." Orchidstar paused waiting for the clan to settle down.
"Today our apprentices took on protecting the clan. Our Five apprentices successfully got rid of a fox that has been taking our prey for many Moons, Tonight we shall have a feast" Orchidstar yowled over the chanting cats and joined them all in a hearty celebration.
Fallingpaw carefully limped to join the apprentices eating their catches happily gossiping. "What was it like meeting a fox, besides Foxstripe?"
"It was terrifying." Mewed Lizardpaw in between mouthfuls of a bird.
"Hey Flamepaw, you know. I think we made the perfect team together. If we work together more, I believe that we could be unstoppable" praised Oatpaw as she ran her tail over Flamepaw's tail purring. Quickly Yellowpaw snorted in anger.
"If you weren't there I think we could have actually got rid of the fox once and for all" retorted Yellowpaw.
"What does that mean!?"Oatpaw hissed in annoyance.
"That you were so, so big headed that the fox could see you from the camp!" Yellowpaw meowed calmly back to Oatpaw. The older apprentice got up and shook her fur out leaving the circle angrily padding away to sit next to her mentor.
"What was that for! We managed to get rid of the fox from our boundaries, she was only being nice Yellowpaw" Flamepaw got up in shame and raced up to Oatpaw and continued talking to her.
Yellowpaw looked at her paws in frustration and left the feast going into her den, she settles down trying to relax, annoyance filled her head.
"I wish that ended in a massive claw out.." Muttered Tanglepaw under his breath.
"Yellowpaw isn't that mouse-brained" mewed Fallingpaw backing up her sister.
"Oh your still here? I thought you were with the elders Fallingpaw" snickered Tanglepaw.
"No wonder you are always alone Tanglepaw, you lack the ability to think about other cats besides yourself." Replied Fallingpaw being cold as ice. Fallingpaw got to her paws and limped down into the apprentice's den. "Why don't you talk to each other?"
"Just leave me alone right now Fallingpaw, I'm in no mood to talk about it" grumbled Yellowpaw.
"I just gave Tanglepaw a lashing, you should have seen his face!" Purred Fallingpaw puffing out her small chest.
"Why does he pay so much attention to her! She is a twisted cat!" Grumbles Yellowpaw.
"Maybe Flamepaw doesn't know?" Suggested Fallingpaw as she adjusted her right hind paw till she was comfortable sitting down. "He..he doesn't really pay..no- he doesn't see Oatpaw for who she really is, nor has he dealt with her when she is not acting like honeysuckle."
"that must be true, I've had enough of sulking, let's go talk to Eagleheart and Sheepfur!"Meowed Yellowpaw racing to her paws and out of the den followed by Fallingpaw staggering into the clearing.
Cliffclan grew quieter as it reached moon-high. Eagleheart and Sheepfur were sitting beside each other talking to Fogstorm and Nightgalewing. Yellowpaw raced up to her brother followed by Fallingpaw who was just barely catching up to her sister.
"Fallingpaw! You are looking so much better now! When will you go back to apprentice duties?"mewed Sheepfur licked Fallingpaw on the head.
"In time for New-leaf! Foxstripe is hoping that my cough will get better too since it will get warmer" Chirped Fallingpaw as she sat beside Sheepfur happily.
"I'm surprised she hasn't come up with a cure for that cough, it sounded so dreadful a few moons ago."Worried Sheepfur "Eagleheart has something to tell you two, I don't think that he can keep it a secret much longer" Yellowpaw and Fallingpaw look at their brother at once as he stopped talking and gave his fur a quick lick. Sheepfur then gave him a curt nod.
"I'm going to be a father!" Eagleheart burst out puffing his fur up in pride. Instantly the remaining cats cheered and congratulated the two.
Yellowpaw flicked her ear around to hear out what the other cats were saying, quickly she picked up Flamepaw's scent gaining closer to her.
"Yellowpaw, Can I speak to you privately for a few moments?" Flamepaw was hesitant at first until she gave a quick nod and followed him going over the fallen tree bridge away from all the other cats. "Oatpaw was really hurt with what you said to her, I don't think it was right for you to speak to her like that Yellowpaw."
"What do you know about her Flamepaw? All she is doing is tricking you, like the whole clan! She is bad! Why can't you just listen to me for once." Hissed Yellowpaw in annoyance "just wake up, will you? She's bad news-"Yellowpaw quickly raced to the overturned tree and into the apprentice's den and laid down beside Fallingpaw, who was fast asleep. Yellowpaw carefully stepped into her nest placing the moss that fell off Fallingpaw back onto her back keeping her warm.
The scent of salt and seaweed wafted from the sea and over the cliff. Fallingpaw tapped at Yellowpaw till she was awake, "what is it?" Muttered Yellowpaw as she closed her eyes again.
"I want to see them" whispered Fallingpaw being careful not to wake up the other apprentices.
"See who?" Mewed Yellowpaw confused with what her sister said.
"I want to find them."Whispered Fallingpaw falling back to a deep sleep.
The sun had risen, blasting into the clearing, warming the soil from its icy dreams. New leaf sprung into action, the wisteria over the entrance awoke from its long-awaited slumber, in vibrant colours, it spread over the moss covered trees. Fallingpaw awoke to an empty nest beside her, the fresh water dropped in through the soil and streamed down the path. Cooling the ground around it, Fallingpaw stretched out her legs being eerily careful other hind paw then padded up the dens exit into the warm clearing. The heat of the sun warmed her bare back till the point she just wanted to go back to sleep.
"Fallingpaw over here now."Ordered Foxstripe. "I have an idea to strengthen your muscles in a somewhat natural way."
Fallingpaw quickly raced up to the medicine cat who was with Rabbitsong, the three steadily leave the camp and go into the meadow which was full of bee's buzzing, flowers swaying and the smell of honey. "So what was the idea you had Foxstripe?" Mewed Fallingpaw curiosity filled her belly as she gazed at the river. "I shouldn't have asked that, huh, I'm going to swim, aren't I?" Rabbitsong replied with a flick of her tail as Foxstripe padded into the clear water and started doing abnormal movements that kept her afloat.
"You need to get down these movements, and you should do it with ease." Mewed Foxstripe as Rabbitsong pushed in her the river. Frantically Fallingpaw splashed about in the water till she gets her balance.
"This isn't so bad" panted Fallingpaw as she sloppily paddled around the river.
