Fallingpaw froze in horror, shiny walls surrounded her all but one side which had gaps in between, she could hear other cats meowing for help, dogs whimpered and yelped. Fallingpaw checked her body to see if anything had changed, with relief nothing changed. She laid down and rested her head on her paw sonly to notice her whole jaw was numb. She quickly let out a startled shrill, but her voice was as silent as the wind. Panic shook Fallingpaw's body, she was trapped.
Yellowpaw awoke her pelt suddenly stood on end, reminders of her nightmare lingered in her head, hurriedly she shook out her pelt and smoothed it out with a few coarse licks and leapt down from the couch, the den was filled with noises, but there was no movement. Meatball and Spaghetti were soundly asleep next to each other, the sun dipped in through the window that trapped Yellowpaw inside. She paced the corner into the kitchen and looked upat the ledge then gracefully pounced on top of it, there stood her offering bowl full of pheasant meat.
Yellowpaw gave it a longing sniff, her mouth began to water, and she gulped down the human food. Yellowpaw's gaze quickly flicked to the door a human was home, without thinking Yellowpaw spat out the food she was eating and raced to the door, there in the human's massive paw was the box that Fallingpaw was taken in. Her heart raced as she saw the box, there was a sharp, sterile smell masking any of Fallingpaw's scent, making it hard for Yellowpaw to guess if her sister was back. Slowly another Human come sloping in from the den where they sleep and walks in front of the little door to the box pushing Yellowpaw back into a corner. The human starts shouting something to the other human, and they leave the room with the box on the floor with its door open.
Yellowpaw slowly crept up to the box, stalking closer she can just make out a faint mumbling sound followed by some thudding. "Fallingpaw is that you?" Yellowpaw's mew was hesitant and quiet as she stalked closer to the box."Fallingpaw?" Yellowpaw called again.
Instantly a head poked out of the holein the box "Yellowpaw!" Fallingpaw's meow was all husky and croaky, Fallingpaw turned to face Yellowpaw. A deep purr shook herbody as happiness welled inside of her and burst like a waterfall. "I was so scared, there were so many noises, and so many prodding humans, and the dogs! Oh, Starclan saved me!" Exclaimed Fallingpaw.
"Are you feeling better" Interrupted Meatball as she trotted in a circle around the two, observing Fallingpaw carefully. " I wouldn't be happy if my tooth hung out like that. It's disgusting, you look like one those ugly Rogues."
"Meatball you shouldn't say rude things!" Spaghetti sternly meowed.
"You shouldn't ever tell me what to do! If you do, again I will skin you again; so it's just flesh on your bones!" Hissed Meatball as she cuffed Spaghetti over the ear angrily."
"It's fine Spaghetti. It doesn't look the best, I admit...but the humans did the best they could."shyly mewed Fallingpaw. Yellowpaw shot her sister a horrifying glance.
"What are you saying?" Yellowpaw paused looking at her sister right in the eyes.
"I'm saying that the humans did a good job at fixing my jaw." replied Fallingpaw trying to avoid her sister's harsh glare.
"No. That's not all, isn't it?" Yellowpaw's meow cut through Fallingpaw's heart. "You want to stay still? What is there to learn anymore? We've learnt as much as possible from this place."
"There is still stuff to learn. I don't think that the only path we hold is one of being a warrior. I think we could choose. Choose whatever path that makes us happiest. Don't you think that too?" Fallingpaw's voice was unwavering and full of certainty, not even for a moment she didn't doubt what she just said.
"No! We are Apprentices, and when we finish training we will be Warriors! The best of the best" Assured Yellowpaw.
"Like what the elders and all the other warriors said when they were apprentices and kits?" retorted Fallingpaw as she wrapped her skinny tail over her paws."Don't you ever want to be different?"
"Then become a Medicine Cat and learn under Foxstripe" Suggested Yellowpaw as she twitched her whiskers frustratedly.
"You know how forgetful I am, some poor cat would die on my watch" Admitted Fallingpaw bluntly.
"You're not forgetful, you just space out and fall over in a ditch somewhere," Remarked Yellowpaw trying to suppress a snort of laughter.
"Who couldn't." Stated Fallingpaw as she looked at the roof of the den. "There is always something new to learn."
"Maybe you should finish learning to be a warrior then learning to be a door-mouse like Spaghetti and Meatball!" Snapped Yellowpaw.
"We aren't even in Cliffclan, and Starclan knows they aren't watching us! Would even Orchidstar take us back after we just up and left them there?" Fallingpaw began to sound slightly panicked of her realisation at the situation at hand.
"So you want to go back to Cliffclan?" Meowed Yellowpaw.
"No." Objected Fallingpaw as she confidently looked at her sisters dazzling green and brown eyes "I want to stay here at least till newleaf, It's dangerous outthere in leafbare! And we still have to find Smokebreeze and Timberkit."
"I understand Fallingpaw, but I can't just sit here getting fatter every single sunrise. I'm sorry" Yellowpaw saw the sadness well up in Fallingpaw's yellow eyes. Fallingpaw nodded to Yellowpaw and rested her head on Yellowpaw's shoulder. "May Starclan light your path."
Yellowpaw slowly moved away from Fallingpaw as sadness tugged at her heart to stay by the side of her sister, Yellowpaw turned her back on her sister and headed for the door that hadn't been closed fully. Yellowpaw gave one final look over her shoulder as she pushed her way through the crack to see Fallingpaw laying on the pelt lined floor looking up at her as she left the humans den.
"Wait for me" Yowled Fallingpaw in the heat of the moment. "Wait for me at newleaf, please" her plea was desperate and hoarse.
Yellowpaw didn't want to reply to her sister and hurriedly left the den. There was a bitter smell of crowfood mixed with the strong scent of humans, there was distant yapping of dogs, and loud meows of cats sitting in the other human's territories.
"Hey Little beauty, what brings you out of you housefolk's place" a voice called out over all the noises Yellowpaw was adjusting to.
"It's none of your business" Meowed Yellowpaw dryly as she trotted towards the trail of the sun ignoring the tom who spoke to her.
Yellowpaw's heart raced as she moved further away from her sister. Separation was harsh, she now understood when some of the warriors had lost their kin, and they seemed so down all the time. Then she realised that she didn't lose her sister, they just couldn't follow the same path because their hearts were different in a different place and not stuck in Starclan separated.
