The chilling breeze blew through Yellowpaw's fur as she looked at the snow-covered ground and to the cloud filled dark sky, the sound of snow crunching under her paws made Yellowpaw somewhat relaxed. The tall ancient trees loomed over as moss blanketed the roots and trunks,
"The forest looks so...quiet" meowed Yellowpaw catching up with her mentor quickly bounding in the snow, as clumps of it stick to her fur.
"We are lucky that we aren't hunting for prey right now, but please learn to be quiet!" Hissed Riverstone.
"When will I learn to battle and hunt!" Prodded Yellowpaw standing in front of her Mentor eagerly waiting for a response,
"Soon enough Yellowpaw, you still haven't even seen the edge of boundaries, and you want to learn how to fight and hunt? I admire your eagerness, but you must learn at a steady pace, so you remember everything" meowed Riverstone. "To be a warrior, you must understand all of what I said."
"Aww Riverstone, I want to learn now! Not later" whined Yellowpaw letting her tail drop into the snow letting a flurry of light snowflakes cascade down to the ground.
"Silence!"Riverstone paused flicking her ears around towards the marshes "It seems that Rabbitsong and Fallingpaw are done, come on it will be night fall soon."
The two padded along in the snow stopping every few fox-lengths shaking the clumps of snow out of their fur.
"Is silver pelt always this bright?" Queried Yellowpaw as she walked onto a frozen puddle and skidded, quickly she unsheathed her claws trying to get a better grip on the icy surface.
"It's dazzling since its Full Moon" Replied Riverstone quickly bounding off a rock. "Move faster, we will be in the meadow soon, when that happens you will be racing like the wind into the camp."
"But the wind doesn't blow that way! It blows towards us" exclaimed Yellowpaw.
"I know" Riverstone's mew was harsh and frustrated.
The two returned to the camp at moon high, the cold breeze drafted in along with the thick heavy smell of rain, the moon was covered by clouds, yet you could still see its foggy glow.
"You can eat now, then protect the dens from water leaking in."Ordered Riverstone swishing her tail over a bird.
Yellowpaw looked at the fresh-kill pile, it was getting smaller and smaller as Leaf-Fall grew stronger and stronger. There were no more frogs and little to none mice. She picked up a frail mouse and sat down near the den as warriors rushed around with pebbles and leaves hoping that they would be enough to stop the rabbit hole dens from being flooded. I wonder where Fallingpaw is... She must be sleeping.
Yellowpaw quickly finished the last bite of her meal and headed towards the apprentice den to see what was going on with the rain proofing.
A muffled mew echoed through the den followed by a yowl "For Starclan's sake Yellowpaw, do you have a swarm of bees in your ears?"
"Oh! Sorry..what do you need?" Annoyance filled her mew as she poked her head through the hole to see Oatpaw reinforcing sticks along the moss with vines, so the tunnel was secure.
"Grab the vine at the entrance!" Hissed Oatpaw which was soon followed up by a mutter.
Yellowpaw shook her fur out and grabbed the vine at the entrance to Oatpaw. The two worked together bickering at every heartbeat. Soon the den was rain ready, and big leaves were securely placed under rocks holding them down.
"It's a shame about your littermate, Yellowpaw" Cooed Oatpaw looking at the younger apprentices' eyes narrowed and focused.
"What do you mean 'its a shame' Fallingpaw is perfect!" Retorted Yellowpaw as her fur raised in rage.
"Oh, you didn't know? She can't follow through with her apprentice role in the clan" Snickered the soon to be Warrior, Oatpaw's meow sent shovers down Yellowpaw's spine making all her pelt stand up on end.
"Who even believes what you say Oatpaw?" Yellowpaw huffed and stormed away out of the apprentice's den, her fur stood on end as she padded around the camp looking for her littermate.
"Oi Eagleheart have you seen Fallingpaw?" Mewed Yellowpaw racing up to her older brother.
"How is being an apprentice? Riverstone not giving you hard enough time?Fallingpaw is in the medicine den. She came into the clan limping pretty badly" Meowed Eagleheart
"Being an apprentice is hard! She will be fine..-right?" Mewed Yellowpaw as she waved her tail in appreciation and walked into medicine den.
"Oh hey Yellowpaw! How was the forest?" Mewed Fallingpaw in excitement. Her eyes were bright and shining as she saw her sister walk into the den.
"Does it hurt if I poke it Fallingpaw? Tell me the truth!" HissedFoxstripe.
"Should I come back later?" Questioned Yellowpaw as she immediately exiting the den.
"Yes, it hurts!" Snapped Fallingpaw! " If my paw is easily swollen up to the size of a frog, of course, it hurts" Fallingpaw stopped speaking to allow a loud hackling cough that shook her body.
"I'm going to collect some snow to put on your foot, you mustn't move."Mewed Foxstripe leaving the den signalling Yellowpaw to see her.
"So how did you do it?" Chuckled Yellowpaw.
"I slipped on the wet grass with my muddy paws" sighed Fallingpaw putting her head into her paws in shame. "At this rate, I'm never going to be a warrior! I'll be an elder by the time I'm one."
Yellowpaw let out a mrrow of laughter "an elder as a warrior, that would be a sight for Starclan! Just imagine it, Don't worry, I won't become a warrior without you Fallingpaw."
Foxstripe entered the den holding a big leaf filled with snow with a pine needle holding the bundle closed. "This is going to be cold, but I'm going to cover you up with some moss and feathers from birds."Informed Foxstripe as she drooped the snow package on the swollen hind paw.
"This is freezing!" Chattered Fallingpaw through gritted teeth. Fallingpaw wrappef her tail around herself leaving out her right hind leg.
"Use the tunnels to get to your den when you're done chatting you two"mewed Foxstripe walking into the mossy tunnel and into the darkness.
"Oatpaw is kinda mean" muttered Fallingpaw.
"I know, she is like a monster! I went to help her with securing the den for the rain, and she kept trying to make me angry." gossiped Yellowpaw.
"Sometimes you just have to keep your jaw shut and ignore her" repliedFallingpaw.
"But what she said, was terrible. It's like she has ticks in her fur. She was saying that you won't ever become a warrior."
"It's true, I won't become a warrior. I won't become a warrior unless you and Timberkit are with me becoming warriors together" comforted Fallingpaw as determination filled her mew.
"We should go looking for him and Smokebreeze, then bring them back into Cliffclan!" Meowed Yellowpaw!
The two fell asleep side by side in the medicine den, the smell of pungent herbs filled the den and soothed the two
