Two Faced

Chapter 3

Dylan's P.O.V.

I was just getting ready for school when I felt a flash of pain through my head; someone of my kind was in trouble. I tried to search for her, but all I could see was darkness. When I tried to find her location I found out that she lived in this town and I immediately knew it was Luna who was in trouble. 'Is she finally transforming? Is it finally happening today?' I decided to tell my parents about Luna.

Two years ago, when I transformed, we agreed that I had to help my kind if they were in trouble. Our kind can connect with each other through telepathy so that we can find each other wherever they are.

I run downstairs and almost scream to my parents: "Luna is finally transforming! It is finally happening!" My parents jolt up in surprise. "Yeesh, son what did you just say? Luna has transformed?" dad asks. "But, how do you know for sure that it's her?" "Mum, I felt a pain through my head and I saw the location, it was near Luna's favourite lake. There's no doubt, I have to go to her she needs me!" "Son, I can understand you, but if she transformed for the first time, her parents have to explain everything to her." "But dad..." On that moment my phone ranged; it was Luna's father. "Mister Roberts, how's Luna doing?" "Oh, so you it already. Well, I would like it if you can come over." "Yes, yes, of course, I'll come right away. Be there in a couple of minutes." "I can always count on you, Dylan. See you." My mum walked over to me: "Go, she needs you now more than ever." "Thanks mum." I give her a big hug and run outside. 'Luna I'm coming...'

When I am by her house I know that her house will be a mess; it was the same when I transformed. I knock on the door and her mother opens the door. She immediately gives me a hug. "I'm so glad you could come." "Oh ma'am, it's not that big of a deal. If Luna's in trouble she can always count on my help." I walk with her inside, but to my surprise the house is not a mess. I see her father standing in the kitchen. "Ah, there you are." "Hi sir, umm may I ask where Luna is?" "Luna is upstairs, sleeping. She was in so much pain and then all of a sudden she blacked out." "But she didn't... transform?" "No... I really thought it would happen, because she screamed and said that it felt like she was dying..." "Oh..." I say a little bit saddened. "Umm Dylan, may I ask what happened in the time before you transformed?" Luna's mother asked. "Yes, of course. Well, weeks before I transformed, I had headaches and I always felt sick. Every night I had dreams or visions of creatures that were in pain and people who said they needed me. Then one evening, while I was watching a movie with my parents, it felt like I was going to die. I screamed and everything hurt. Even my parents couldn't do anything because the slightest touch on my body caused pain to me. And on the moment when I thought I was going to explode... I transformed. I started to grow from 6 feet to 8 feet, I got a long tail and well, you know the other features, right?" "Yes, we know that." her father answers. I continued. "Well, at first I couldn't control myself; wich means I ran through the whole house breaking almost everything in the process. Until my father came to me and shot me with anaesthetic. It was stupid but I still did: I jumped on him and tried to penetrate his skull with my inner jaw, but then my father shot me again with anaesthetic and I was down for 4 days." "Wow... I- It's quite a story Dylan" Luna's mother says. I shrug "I fortunately got myself under control when I transform... But I want to warn you guys. Every transformation is different, which means that it's possible that it can be a whole lot worse with Luna. 'I know it will be worse. Luna is...different...'

It's been three days now and I really am starting to worry about Luna; she still hadn't woken up. 'Was the pain too much for her body? I can't remember any case where one of us was unconscious for such a long time.' Just as I wanted to go upstairs I can hear Luna's father calling us from upstairs: "She's awake!" Her mother and I run upstairs. We open the door and see that she's turning in her bed. I walk over to her bed and she opens her eyes. Her parents rush over to her and I put a hand on her arm and smile. She looks at me a little confused. Her mother is the first one to speak: "Honey, thank goodness you're finally awake! You were asleep for three days." Luna looks confused at us. "Dear just let her be. Luna, how are you feeling? Do you remember what happened three days ago?" "N-no I don't. W-what happened?" "Well, you walked downstairs and tripped and eventually you bumped your head real hard on the ground, then you blacked out" her dad answered. 'What the hell is he talking about?! Why doesn't he tell her the truth? They can't protect her forever...' "Oh..." "What is it honey?" her mum asks. It's nothing, I just... feel a little nauseous and where is Liam?" "Liam is asleep." "Oh, that's good... But can you please leave me alone with Shadow?" "Of course dear, come on let's go." I give her a small smile and squeeze her hand a little. She smiles back but then turns her head to the other side. I look at her one last time before I close the door. Her parents had already gone downstairs, but I don't want to be around them. I decide to go to home. I have missed school for three days but I don't care, Luna was in trouble and I wanted to be there for her. I go downstairs and walk out of the house without saying anything. "If they aren't gonna tell it to her, then I will. She can't be under their control forever. She will be free..."

Luna's P.O.V.

I still can't imagine that I have been out for three days. And I still don't understand why Shadow wants me to save them. I have no power, I am just a regular teen who lives in the year 2178. 'But why did I had the intense urge to save that creature or should I say, girl? I don't know her. Right?' I look at the ceiling and sigh. "Why? Why me Shadow?" Shadow looks up to me after hearing his name. "Oh no, not you little guy, I meant someone else. Someone far away... Locked up and waiting for me to free them..." Shadow looks at me with a sad face. "Hey Shadow, should we go for a run to our favourite place?" Shadow jumps up with joy. "I think that's a yes!" I look outside; it's already night. But I don't mind, because I like it in the dark more than when the sun is shining.

I sneak outside my room with Shadow and I can hear my parents talking in their bedroom. 'Good, they're going to sleep.' I have to wait a few more minutes before the lights go off and silence comes in. "Come on buddy." I whisper to Shadow. We sneak further downstairs and I walk over to the kitchen to grab the house keys. We go outside and I lock the door behind me.

As we walk down the street the moon shines down on us. I've always liked it when the moon is up; it makes me feel safe... We walk further to the lake and just as we're about to enter the park Shadow begins to growl. "What is it buddy?" But Shadow continues to growl, even louder now. He keeps looking at the dark alley to my right. I turn around but I don't see anything, only darkness. And then I hear it: hissing. "Oh no..." 'It's the same hissing from those creatures in my dream...' I back away in the direction of the park and Shadow begins to bark very loud, but the hissing continues even louder now. "Shadow, come on..." I whisper to my dog but it's no use; he keeps barking.

Suddenly I feel a wave of pain through my head. I grab my head and sink to my knees. Shadow stops with barking and turns to me and begins to whine softly. "I- It's ok Shadow, rea-" Then another wave of pain hits me. I fall to the ground and begin to scream. "Nooo, please no more!" The hissing stops and suddenly I hear someone talking inside my head... 'We finally found you. It won't take long now before you will join us to defeat those stupid humans. They are not like us and they will never understand us.' I tried to ignore the voice, but it was almost useless because the pain became worse. 'Why are you resisting me? After all, I am your brother.' My eyes grew wide. "Brother?" I whispered. 'Yes, that's right. Our kind is all connected to each other. Even if we're not relatives, we are still one family.' "No, nooo! I am nothing like you and you are not my family!" 'Yes, we are! We know you are one of us and it won't take long before you will find it out yourself. Then you're so called family, can't protect you anymore. Oh no, then you will have to survive on your own. And when that time has come we will be there waiting, waiting for you...' With that the voice and the pain disappeared. I get up to my feet and run away from the alley back home. Shadow follows without complaining.

When I get to my home I unlock the door and run straight upstairs to my room. I wait until Shadow arrives and then lock the door. I run to the window and also lock it. I sit on my bed with my head in my hands and tears streaming down my face. Shadow jumps on my bed and lays his head on my lap. 'Why is this happening to me? I don't get it. Had my dream from before something to do with all of this? What did that voice mean by finding out yourself? Is there something big going to happen very soon? I don't want anything to do with whatever is going to happen.' "I am sorry Shadow... I think you have to find someone else to save you..." Eventually I fell asleep with Shadow laying beside me.
