The sun shined brightly that morning seeping through Maya's window, nature's way of trying to get her up.Maya tossed and turned refusing to want to get up, five more minutes she groaned to herself. She tried to ignore that is was moving day and desperately wanted to stay in bed all day; however she knew those days of procrastination were over. She rubbed her eyes together and let out a yawn. Her room was exactly the same as last night, sad and empty. She got dressed and sought out breakfast in the kitchen. Still no sign of Katy and Shawn who were on their second honeymoon, which Maya thought was strange to celebrate love twice but anything strange was beginning to feel normal to her. She opened up the fridge and saw leftover pizza from two days ago, she flinched at the sight out it but it would have to do for now. She didn't even realize the time and was going to be late in meeting Riley at Sprinkles, a cupcake shop, which was their halfway mark since Maya moved that summer. One last dreadful bite of that pizza and she was off. It was noon, surprisingly perfect timing, she locked the apartment door behind her and left her extra keys behind a painting outside in the hallway. She was up on the 7th floor which she never liked since the elevators were broken. Eventually after all these years the stairs became repulsive, but she did get killer legs so there were less complaints as time moved on. As she took her final step out the door at the Landings she looked back for a second and laughed.

"I hope to not step on your stairs anytime soon, it's been real Landings take care of Shawn and Katy for me" she laughed some more and headed to the subway.

This was the beginning of her being on her own and she admitted it was a scary feeling, but also exciting at the same time. The only other time she had those type of emotions was when she was with Josh. She scrunched up her face in disgust and shaked her head, "Get out of my thoughts, please". But how could she if Josh was the one thing she wanted most at one point in her life. No matter what she did the thought of him creeped up behind her more than usual; she began to think if he was still at New York University studying, he should be in his last year but she remembered Riley saying he might have transferred but who knows. Maya could deny all her thoughts about Josh but deep inside she wanted to know. She wanted to know if he too ever thought about her they way she thought about him. She wanted to know if there truly was a someday in the future for them. She wanted to know if he did really like her after all. She was hopeless in finding the truth. She made it down to the subway and still had to wait another painful forty minutes of transportation before she got to Sprinkles and saw Riley, her anchor. She kept her in place, she knew how to keep Maya steady and in control...or so she thought these days. Lately Riley hasn't been her cheery and overjoyed self since Lucas moved away in the beginning of the summer back to Texas for a baseball scholarship. He had to go to a baseball camp prior to begin at the University of Texas at Austin.Of course this damaged Riley in a way Maya has never seen before. For once it was Maya who had to take care of her girl, not the other way around. Sure Maya couldn't be there physically with her all the time but she stayed up every night when Riley called crying missing Lucas and stayed up talking while watching movies together on Skype countless times. Not to mention Lucas would be back in the winter but that was a lifetime for her. The mere thought of a long distance relationship made Maya's chest tighten, to be apart from your other half and not being able to see him was just painful. But if there was anyone in this world that could rely on hope to make things work was Riley. Who would of thought that they would both be hung up on boys. The downside of this was Riley didn't know that Maya was having a new set of feelings for Josh in which she couldn't even describe because she didn't know what the feelings were or where they stood for her.It took everything in the world for Maya to get herself together to make it into the program and Josh was nothing but a distraction at this point.

Those dreadful forty minutes had gone quickly than expected, she hoped off the subway and rolled her suitcase along with her. She walked upstairs struggling with her suitcase, she almost made it but she tripped on her own foot and with horror she watched as her suitcase landed downstairs and her belongings scattered. Maya stood there motionless she didn't know whether to panic or scream because of the eruption she made or the fact of who she saw standing at the bottom of the stairs gathering her suitcase together. "This can't be happening" she said as she trembled making her way down to the bottom.
