Chapter Nine

Maya ran straight upstairs, there was no time for an elevator ride she thought to herself. She jiggled her keys trying to open her door she couldn't wait to tell Riley. The door finally opened she could see Riley has passed out on the couch waiting for her.

"Riley!" Maya exclaimed, "Get up!I have to tell you something!" she was running out of breath. Riley groaned, "Maya?" she yawned and rubbed her eyes, "what time is it?" she asked.

"11:32 p.m but that's not as important as what I'm about to say" Maya could hardly control her emotions. Riley adjusted herself so she was sitting up straight on the couch, "what is Maya?" she said worried she hadn't seen Maya this hysteric before. Maya took Riley's hand and let out a deep breath.

"I'm in love with Josh" Maya tried to stay calm but she smiling so wide she could feel her cheeks hurting.

"I'm sorry did you just say you love Josh?" Riley couldn't say with a straight face as she broke out in a huge smile as well. Maya couldn't even speak she just kept nodding her head yes, and Riley pulled her in for a hug.

Riley began to speak, "I can't believe it! It's finally happening my best friend and my uncle" she paused while she thought how amazing this was for Maya. She continued," What did Josh say? Did he cry? I bet he did" Maya got up from the couch and paced a little because she realized she still had to tell him.

"I-um-I" she stuttered, "I haven't told him yet" she felt dumbfounded. She sat back down next Riley on the couch and she placed her head on her shoulder. Riley began to scratch her head as Maya proceeded to tell her about her wild night, no detail left behind. They talked until the sun rose,peaking through the windows of their apartment; birds were chirping and they were still on the couch. Maya looked at her phone, she had about an hour and a half before she had to be in class.

Riley looked at her, "You going to tell Josh today?". Maya looked back at her, "I'm nervous Riles.What if I'm imagining everything, what if it's all in my head?" she sighed putting her face in her hands. All she ever wanted was to be with Josh, they were so close at getting there. Riley pulled Maya's hands away, "What does your heart say?" she asked giving a faint smile. Maya knew would she felt, and it was hard for her to put it into words but she tried her best to explain to Riley,

"The minute Josh walked into your home the night before Christmas I knew there was something special about him that I hadn't noticed before. When I saw him, there was aglow around him. He was the most beautiful person I've ever laid eyes on. He called me gorgeous and I melted inside. I went home and I could barely sleep he kept me up all night smiling. All I ever wanted was for him to give me a chance, to show him that age was just a number. And here we are years later and our lives have separated us,but now life has brought us together again. The universe has tested us, it has given us obstacles but somehow we've managed to push through those little things. Last night though was the ultimate test,Isabella came back for him and he didn't want her around. I told him to give her a second chance because deep inside I wasn't worried that he would go back for her. My heart told me not to worry because all along I knew he loved me and it wasn't until last night that I realized it. Riley I am burning inside, my heart is so heavy right now because I love him. I didn't know it before but what I'm feeling is love, pure love. I'm in love with Josh Matthews and my heart is telling me we're ready for our someday" she looked up at Riley who looked like she was about to cry. She laughed a little trying not to cry along with her. She leaned in grabbing her for yet another hug."No time for crying sunshine" she said stroking her hair.

"They're tears of joy Maya, you guys are going to have your moment after all these years and he has no idea yet" Riley exclaimed.

"Well we'll never know how this goes unless we get our happy butts to class" Maya said with a smile on her face.

Maya and Riley quickly got themselves ready trying to push through their exhaustion. Today was the day Maya had been waiting for, it was finally here. They both had arrived to their destinations, and parted their ways. As always they hugged and wished each other another day of good luck. And now more than ever Maya needed all the luck she could get. She could hardly control herself making her way to Andrew's class. She sat down in her usually spot as she waited for Josh to come in through the doors. A couple minutes went by, and there he was. Maya's face lit up as the love of her life walked by her and sat in his deck. They made eye contact, and she noticed that he seemed agitated. Maya wanted to run up to him and tell him everything but it wasn't the right time not yet. She hope he wouldn't be mad at her for how things ended up last night. Throughout Andrew's lesson, she tried listening but all she could do was glance over at Josh every chance she got. Class was almost over, and she looked over at him one more time she saw how he was mouthing I'm sorry to her, but she knew he didn't need to be sorry. Andrews dismissed the class and trying not to be eager she made her way to Josh's desk.

"Josh-" she began to say but was cut off

"Maya hear me out I don't love Isabella anymore please-" he said firmly but Maya cut him off as well.

"Josh we need to talk but not here follow me" she said taking hand and she lead them through the building and back to bench where he asked her on their first date.They were still hand in hand while she sat down on the grass where they fell into each other. Josh looked confused, but soon Maya would explain everything. She was still holding his hand, she looked at him like it was the first time all over again. He was glowing.

"Maya I'm sorry for everything-"

"Josh I'm not mad listen-"

"No I can take it scream, yell, punch me I can take it just-"

"Josh I'm not going to do anything I just wanted to say-"

"That you hate me? Oh god I ruined everything for us I didn't know Isabella was-" he continued to babble and Maya thought she was going to explode.

"Josh Matthews if you could just shut up for about five seconds to tell you I love you then that would be fantastic" she looked at him fully aware of what she just said. Josh turned to her and his face lit up like Maya had never seen before.

"You love me?" he asked her and before she could reply back Josh made his way to her lips and they kissed each other softly.

He pulled back staring deep into her eyes, "I love you too Maya Hart, I always have and I always will ".

Maya shrieked as she heard josh say he loved her too, she tackled him to the ground giving him another kiss. Josh was finally hers, their someday was going to happen and for the first time ever, Maya felt completed.

So there you have it Joshaya finally together, which I'm happy about but this story is about overcoming challenges and Maya finding herself as a person so be prepared for unexpected twists and turn that I have yet to write

So if I don't update tomorrow or the next day just know that I'm thinking about where this story is heading so don't worry it's not over yet!
