Chapter Nineteen

Riley's POV

I had texted Maya a couple hours ago asking how her trip with Josh was so far but she still hasn't replied back, understandable though. She's been talking about this trip non-stop for the last three weeks. At first the whole idea of my best friend and uncle together didn't seem like a good idea but we all I know I'm a sucker for romance. As time moved on it was obvious how perfect they were for each other. It was getting late now so Lucas and I decided to call it a night. Lucas had knocked out once his head hit the pillow but I couldn't help but stay up thinking about Maya, I kept feeling worried. I tossed and turned for what seemed like hours but my clock said otherwise. Plus, it didn't help that Lucas was snoring louder than usual. I let out a sigh, I hope Maya is having more fun than me right now. A little time had passed and I got an hour or so of sleep but I was awaken by knocking at the door. I checked the time it was 2 in the morning, who would be knocking at this hour? The knocking was now louder and consistent. I looked over at Lucas how could he sleep peacefully with all the noise? I got up from my bed quickly to answer the door "I'm coming! " I yelled at whoever was on the other side, but maybe that wasn't a good idea what if it was a robber and I just gave myself up?! I shook my head Riley it's late stop imagining things. I opened up the door and it was Maya, she looked awful; her eyes were red and puffy.

"Maya? What are you doing here??" so many questions were running through my mind.

"Are you hurt? What happened?!" I asked as I walked her inside trying to make it back to her room but she collapsed on the floor.

"Can you-u please pa-ay for the ta-axi downstairs I have no-o mone-ey" she said with tiny breathes in between.

"Yes yes of course peaches, Lucas!" I yelled for him praying he would get up, "Lucas! Please come!" within seconds he was stumbling out of the room dazed and confused.

"What is what's going on?" he said looking over at both Maya and I on the floor"Please pay the taxi downstairs please Lucas" I said still holding onto Maya trying to make our way to the couch. He quickly went for his wallet and headed downstairs.

"Maya what is happening you're scaring me" she did not say a word all she did was shake her head no and was crying silently. I held onto her tightly.

"Maya I can't help you unless you talk to me please" she looked up at me, "I can't Riley, not yet" All I did was nod while wiping the tears off her face. "Let's get to you bed peaches we can talk after you get some rest" Lucas had just came back from paying the taxi, I asked him to take Maya to her room. I could still hear her crying softly as Lucas carried her away. What had happened between her and Josh? Everything was going so well between them. Hopefully Maya would be feeling better after some rest and explain to me the situation. 

But the day never came.

 We never talked in the morning, it's been a week and Maya was still in her room. She only came out to use the bathroom, I would have to bring her meals to her or else she wouldn't eat. It was getting frustrated and I was sick of it I needed answers.

"I'm going to run some errands, do you think you'll be okay with Maya?" Lucas had asked me but honestly I was at a breaking point.

"Lucas how come I don't know what to do? I'm her best friend but I'm so lost I've never seen Maya this broken before, how can I fix this if she won't tell me?" I was on the verge of tears. Lucas pulled me into him and gave me a hug. 

"Riley give her time whatever happened to her she's not ready to talk we can't do much now" he said gently rubbing my back to calm me down.

"Okay" I said with a fake smile as he left to run his errands, I ignored his advice I wasn't about to give up on Maya. I took a deep breathe before knocking on her door, "Maya?" I said, and as expected no answer. I opened up the door and she was laying in her bed staring at the wall. I walked closer and sat on the edge of her bed, "Maya we need to talk it's been a week since your trip with Josh and you haven't said a word about what happened. Maya I'm worried and I want to help but you have to meet me half-way here and tell me what happened, please" I said looking at her but she remained silent. 

"Maya please" I was begging at this point but again she gave me nothing. I was trying to remain calm but I was getting furious, if she hasn't going to answer me then I didn't have any other choice. 

"Fine. If you don't tell me I'll just have Josh explain to me" I said bitterly getting up quickly and slamming the door behind me. I grabbed my bag and keys and headed out the door, I could hear behind me Maya telling me to stop but it was too late I needed answers.

I hopped on the bus heading to Josh's, he was my only hope at this point. The bus ride came to a stop and I got off making my way up to his apartment building. I opened up the doors and I ran straight up the stairs and made a turn to 4D. I starting pounding on the door, "Josh let me in!" I said knocking harder until he finally opened the door up.

"Riley are you crazy keep it down?!" he hushed me but I brushed past him making my way inside, "I don't care tell me what happened during your trip Josh, explain to me as to why Maya hasn't left her room in a week? She hasn't spoken one word to me so you better tell me what happened so I can help her" I said helplessly. He made his way to the couch, he didn't look too great either. He had bags under his eyes, his hair was a mess, and he was dressed sloppy.

"Riley can you please keep it down" he said rubbing his eyes. I raised my brow at him as I came closer to him I could smell the stench of alcohol on him. 

"You've got to be kidding Josh, are you hungover? How long have you been drinking?" I asked him in disbelief, but he looked away, he only drank when something really bad was happening.

He sighed, "Riley I messed up bad" placing his head in his hands, he started to cry. I've never seen him like this he was just like Maya, they were both broken. 

I moved closer to him, "Josh explain everything to me please, let me help you no matter how bad it is we are family, I'm here for you and Maya. Please let me in." I pleaded and it took him a moment but he nodded and explained everything that happened on their trip. 

"We got to find Isabella this is all her fault" I said to Josh as I was trying to process everything he just told me.

"So you believe me?" he asked, and I did.

"Of course I do, but now I understand why Maya is like this. You and me we're going to fix this." I said getting up.

"But how Riley, this isn't easy to fix Maya thinks I cheated on her and you know I would never I love Maya so much-." I cut him off,

"You don't need to explain your love for her to me I know the love you two have; this is just a huge mess but everything will be fine I have a plan."
