"Don't forget to come to the company Christmas party," Abri said as we all started to pack up for work. People started to head home as I packed up my purse and I started to head to Ryder's office to give him one last message when a girls voice stopped me.
"Sam! Can you pretty please squeeze me in with a meeting with Daniel? You owe me one," the girl said and I turned to see Serenity.
"I'm sorry, you must be thinking of someone else. My name is Audrey and I'm the secretary here. You can go wait by my desk and I'll check to see if he's still here," I said, peppy with a smile. To say that she was shocked was an understatement. She looked like a fish out of water.
"Where's your desk?" Her tone was harsh and cold.
"Over by the elevators. Can't miss it. Let me go check if he's still in." I quickly delivered the message to Ryder and walked to Daniel's office. I knocked and then walked in, closing the door behind me. I decided to wear a white blouse and a tan pencil skirt with a black belt. Daniel hadn't left yet, I knew that because he always drives me home.
"Aud," his voice came out tired and strained as he looked over papers. He looked so stressed and my heart hurt for him. I walked over and stood behind him, rubbing his shoulders.
"What's wrong mon bon-aime?" I ran a hand through his hair to calm him down as he let out a sigh.
"Nothing to worry about mi amado." He got up and caressed my face in his hands, admiring my features.
"You'll tell me sooner or later." He smiled at me, showing me his perfectly white teeth.
"You ready to go? We're still going to the company party together right?" I nodded my head eagerly.
"Oh, someone asked to squeeze in a quick meeting with you today." He sighed and groaned at me.
"Give this meeting five minutes then we're going home." He kissed my forehead and I disappeared to go get Serenity.
"Mr. Johnson will see you for five minutes. His office is the third door on the-." She cut me off, rudely.
"Third door to the right, I got it," Serenity said and walked off, leaving me alone to slip on my black blazer. It was slightly cold in California in the winter, it was not like New York though. I divided stacks of paper into the most urgent to least urgent to make it easier for myself tomorrow.
I sat down and waited for them until they finally came out, his arm draped over her. She kissed his cheek as they laughed.
"We're going to take Serenity home since she rode a cab here," Daniel said and I put on a fake smile. Grabbing my purse and walk into the elevator with a thick tension in the air. Serenity decided to sit in the passengers seat, my usual seat.
"Can you just drop me off at my house? I need to get ready," I said rudely, my tone harsh, making Daniel turn to look at me.
"But your dress is at my house." Serenity turned and gave me a death glare.
"I know, your mom can give it to me. Or Mila or Carlos. I'll just chat with Mila and wait for you." His mouth turned into a frown as he pulled into his driveway. He got out and opened my door.
"I wish that you would just let me take her home and then come back here with me." I just shook my head and gave a small smile.
"It's fine. I'll be here when you come back." He sent me a dashing smile and kissed me softly before he hopped back into the car with Serenity shooting daggers my way.
"I have an outfit for you," Mila screamed from upstairs when I walked in. I walked into a very happy couple and a baby bump Mila. She was laughing at something Carlos had said as he was talking baby gibberish to her stomach.
