Chapter 12

I feel an arm wrapped loosely around my waist, I try to get out of the arms grip but it just pulls me tighter to someone's body. A pain shot through my stomach as I groaned and yelped, "Oh my god!" The body next to me shoots up and I realize that it's Daniel.

"Audrey! Are you okay? What's wrong," Daniel asks as I still lay down while he sits up.

"My stomach remember? You just applied too much force on it. Go back to bed Daniel." He mutters something and falls back on the bed, loosely gripping my waist.

"Daniel, Serenity," A voice asks and comes into Daniel's room. I look over, so does Daniel, it's Mila. She's rubbing her eyes and I take in her appearance, she's wearing one of Carlos' dress shirts that is huge on her. Her hair is messy but she seems to be glowing.

"Get out Mila," Daniel groans as she looks over at us.

"Oh my! Audrey! I expected it to be your girlfriend! Why are you here? I love your company but I raised Daniel better than that." Daniel groans as I look at the position we're in.

"Oh no no no! We just had a late night so I crashed here!" She raised an eyebrow at me and crosses her arms as I sit up quickly. "Not like that!" She looks at my arm and uncrosses them, rushing over to me.

"What happened to you lovely?" I look down at my arm and notice the huge bandage on it. 

"She got shot," Daniel said quietly as Carlos walked into the room, without a shirt and only pajama pants on, rubbing his tired eyes.

"What do you mean? Sit down sweetheart." She put me on the bed again and looked at me. "Hey baby. Go back to bed." She sat next to me and rolled up my sleeve as she talked to Carlos.

"I can't sleep without you there and you know that," Carlos said and laid down on Daniel's bed with his head in Mila's lap.

"How did this happen?" She was talking to Daniel and I now. I bit my lip softly and look over at Daniel who was now sitting up.

"A gang leader stabbed me at the party, I don't know why but he wanted Audrey when she came onto the scene. He kept sending her pictures of her and her brother and gave her an address to meet him. I went with her because she was nervous. I took a gun of course but he turned it on us. Audrey fought him and grabbed the gun but someone shot her arm. He took her and I had to shoot the guy to save Audrey. I saved her and I took her to my car and removed the bullet from there," Daniel explains and we all pay attention to his lie.

"You're in deep shit hermano," Carlos said and shook his head.

"Audrey! I'm so sorry this had to happen. Daniel, it's fine okay? You saved Audrey, she's here now," Mila said while her husband started yelling at Daniel in Spanish and Daniel took it. "Let's go back to bed sweetheart." Carlos looked at Mila and stopped yelling at Daniel, his features softened when he looked at her.

"Come on babe, I'll carry you," Carlos said and Mila hopped into his arms. "I hope I didn't wake Braden." She sighed as they walked off.

"They really love each other," I said to Daniel when they left.

"Imagine growing up with all this love. Aspen and Ryder and Mila and Carlos. My brothers found their soulmates when they were seniors. That's so weird because I think I found mine," Daniel said and pulled me to lay down next to him. I knew he was talking about Serenity.

"What was it like?"

"What was what like?" We weren't making eye contact, we were staring at the ceiling as he intertwined our hands.

"Growing up surrounded by love." I only knew love from my parents.

"I liked Aspen the second I saw her, Ryder was a bad kid and she changed him for the better. He was always wrapped around her finger. He never had anything to look forward for in his future he said, he thought about their future together and he realized that he was going to have a family to provide for soon so he got his act together and got into college. Carlos was worse, almost burning down schools. Then Mila came along and she was basically an angel for him, she helped him through break ups and sending our dad to jail. She left because her father broke out of jail and came back for her. They reconnected in college." He explained their love stories and examined my fingers with his.
