"It's an honor to even be nominated," I said to Daniel. I pulled down my black dress and slid on heels.
"She's getting worse Aud," Daniel said while I adjusted his tie.
"Results should come in today. Chief will tell me." I ran a hand through my hair and smiled. Let me give you a recap of what's going on. My dad is a nominee for the Grey award, the biggest award a surgeon could receive.
They got the results for his trial, the last person. Chief said that he would tell me in New York when I'm there for spring break to take my dad's place. So I'm here, getting ready to talk for my dad.
"Mi amado," Daniel whispered in my ear as I put on a necklace. He wrapped his arms around me from behind but I pulled out of them.
"Don't call me that," I said. Every time he said that I couldn't help but hear him say it to Esmerelda.
"Please, I thought that we were trying to make this work." I sighed and shook my head, putting on acting skills. "How am I supposed to make it work when every time you say that I hear you say it to her?" Or I hear my dads plea's and my mom's silent cries.
"Please Aud." He begged and I grabbed my gold clutch.
"Let's go." I shook my head as we walked down the busy New York street. He tried to give me his jacket but I declined. Today was going to be hard enough, having my parents killer here was going to be tougher.
"I love you Aud. No matter how much you deny me, I love you." I couldn't help but smile as we walked into the venue. I was greeted by Mckenna Grey, the giver of the award. Her small old frame greeted me with a hug.
"Audrey Mickelson, you've grown so beautiful darling. You look exactly like your mom," She said and her eyes got teary as Daniel shifted uncomfortably.
"Thank you, that's such an honor to be told," I said, smiling proudly.
"I should've kept security tighter." She was a shareholder of the hospital. I reached out and touched her arm.
"No one could've prevented this Mrs. Grey." She gave me a small sad smile.
"My sincerest apologies." I nodded as she left to be replaced by Chief.
"Chief." He hugged me tightly, like he was afraid to lose me along with my parents.
"Audrey. You get more and more stunning every time I see you," Chief said. Studying my features like he hasn't seen me in forever.
"You remember Daniel, I'm sure." Chief looked at him before his face went pale.
"I didn't see your eyes last time. They're so green." His face went paler by the second.
"Maybe you should sit down sir," Daniel said and tried to help him to a chair but Chief flinched away.
"Audrey can help me. Feel free to find your seat arrangement." Daniel was hesitant and left finally.
"Chief, are you okay?" He fanned himself and sat down.
"Audrey. I could never forget those eyes." I nodded my head, acting confused.
"Why? You said you didn't see them last time."
"Audrey, Daniel killed your parents. His eyes were so bright and they showed no remorse at all." I nodded my head.
"I know Chief." He gasped and glared at me."
"How? Why?" I sighed, that's the confusing part. "Why are you still with that boy?"
"To hurt him even more. But things got sticky Chief." He nodded for me to go on. "His mom has Alzheimer's. I can't be him, I can't kill off his last parent." I felt tears sting my eyes, he pulled me in for a hug as I cried into his chest.
