Dans POV:
I could feel the cold air coming from outside the closet door and Phil's forgiving hug on my ribs. The door handle twisted. My heart rate sped up. It was just Damon.
"There in the basement. I locked them down there. I can get you all out I have a car in the back!" I didn't even think about the fact that he looked 14, which is not old enough to drive let alone a flying car. Alex was already waiting at the stairs. We ran out the door as fast as possible and out to the car.
"Can we pick up some friends?" Phil asked Damon.
"Sound good." Damon said as he pressed down on the peddle going up to the clouds towards the burnt down shelter. Me and Phil sat in the back of the old rusted van. Hands right together like we where going down. Although it seemed we weren't going to make it. I knew we where. I just knew it. We couldn't die here. Me and Phil's story couldn't die here. Who knows what would happen.
" Alex, who was that girl anyways?" I asked.
"Um, she was a run away like us. She's lasted out here alone for 4 years."
"Thanks. Just wondering." I assured him. This kind of gave me hope. She lasted 4 years, we could last 10 or more. For the first time in weeks. I believed. I looked over at Phil and to see he was calm. Looking out the window was peaceful to see. He wasn't panicking. He was just calm. Phil seemed to sense my glare and looked back at me and smiled. I kissed him slightly on the cheek and tightened my grip on his hand. He kissed me back.
"I love you Dan." He scrunched his nose.
"I love you too Phil." I replied truly.
"I love you a lot Phil." The car stopped and lowered. I could see pj and Chris. But Charlie was unseen. I could see them running around and grabbing things then quickly bringing them to a small unconscious body lying on the ground. It was Charlie.
