You ran a checklist in your head:

Clothes?

Yes.

Shoes?

Yes.

Bathroom stuff?

Yes.

Guns?

Yes.

Anything else important?

Hopefully.

"You ready Rookie?" Bri kindly asked from the doorway.

You sighed. "I think so."

"Don't worry Rook, we'll be back. We just, need to solve this and keep us safe." She came up and started rubbing circles on your back. This was one of those rare times she was calm and relaxed. You were glad she was acting like that around you. Gillian never sees the moments when she's like this.

You felt special. "You know, I despised any thought of coming back here. Everything that happened, all the bloodshed, it was hell on earth for me. I didn't want to come, now I don't want to leave.

I don't know why I feel like that but I just, I guess I'm not ready to go." Bri smiled softly and gave you a hug. "It's alright. We're all feeling like that, one way or another. We prepped to be here for at least a year and it's only been 8 months. Who knows, we might come back." She winked at you and you scoffed.

"You're not saying that because of me are you?"

"Ha!"

"What?"

"We all want to come back Rookie. And we will, we just need to deal with this first." She smiled at you again, a soft glint sneaking in her pupils. "Yeah, right. Uh, hey Bri?" You stopped her from walking out.

"Whatcha need?" She turned back around to face you.

"Do you ever just think?" She sat down at the foot of the bed. "About anything specific?"

"About if we weren't here. If this war never started."

"All the time! It tends to be brighter, not as much of a gloom." She chuckled. "Do you ever miss it?" You sat down next to her. "Yeah, a lot actually. It's not the best thing in the world, living with the memories that we have. But, there is a bright side." You gave her a soft questioning look.

"If this never happened, I never would have met you and be reunited with my friends. I mean, I'd still have Gillian, but one can only deal with her for so long." She commented and you both laughed together.

"You two ready?" Brady asked from the living room. "Yeah I'm on my way out!" Bri called to him and stood up. You grabbed your bags and loaded them onto the Pelican. Once everyone had their stuff aboard, Logan and Bri headed up to the front to pilot.

You grabbed her wrist before she got too far.

"You promise everything's going to be okay?"

She smiled and hugged you.

"Promise."
