She broke the hug and looked up at him after her confession, her hands resting on his biceps. Aditya's eyes bored into hers and she caught her breath. She was nervous. It was easy acting on impulse and saying those words, but the amount of time in between her confession and his reaction contained way too much suspense.
It was a few seconds later, when he finally pushed her off roughly, causing her to stumble backwards. Then he stormed out of the room.
Was he mad at her? Was she wrong? Had her assumptions been incorrect? Maybe he really wanted to protect her because it was part of his job, and that was it. Just because he held her hand and slept with her at night didn't mean that he liked her. She was the only one next to him... so he had no choice.
"What's wrong with me?" she asked herself, and sat down on the bed, a frown on her lips. "Yes, I like him... but it isn't crazy. I can get over it. It might be a small crush because he's so heroic... yes, that's it. It's just a crush."
It was like she was trying her hardest to convince herself. She shook her head and buried her face in her hands. Too much was happening. Firstly they were in hiding, running away from terrorists. Secondly, she had just seen the most horrific sight of dead bodies this morning. Thirdly, she was getting these strange feelings for her saviour. Lastly, she knew that no matter what happened, even if these feelings progressed, Aditya, her childhood friend, would always be in her mind, and she would never forget him.
"Maybe I should be away from him... but how?" she mumbled.
Aditya then stormed into the room again and she looked up at him.
"There's food on the counter," he informed, his tone neutral. "Go and eat."
Had he forgotten that she practically just confessed that she liked him? Why was he ignoring her feelings?
Mahima stood up and walked to the kitchen.
"We got the food from the other driver when we switched cars, along with a few bags of clothing," Laksh informed as soon as Mahima entered the kitchen.
Laksh put food on a plate for her and handed it to her. Mahima took it and started to hungrily eat her food. She had been starving. Aditya then joined them, avoiding Mahima's gaze. Laksh seemed to notice this.
"Is everything okay?" Laksh asked.
"Yes," Aditya replied.
"Why aren't you looking at Mahima?" Laksh probed further.
"Good question. I'd like to know too," Mahima muttered under her breath.
"Laksh shut up," Aditya hissed.
"It's not nice to ignore each other," Laksh pointed out with a frown.
"You know what's going to happen, so why are you acting like we all need to be best friends?" Aditya snapped.
What was going to happen? Mahima was now confused.
"Yes, I know what can happen, but that has to happen sooner or later to us all. If something's written for the future, it doesn't mean we cease to live in the present," Laksh hissed back.
"My head hurts," Mahima groaned. "I don't understand what you're saying."
"Sorry... he's just scared of giving you back to the President and then never having to see you again," Laksh clarified.
"What?" Mahima gasped. "Really Dev? You're scared?"
"I'm not scared. I don't care. I want to get rid of you as soon as I can," Aditya hissed, and then he stood up and stormed into the bedroom he was sharing with Mahima, leaving his food half-eaten.
Mahima watched him go, a small smile on her face from finding his antics cute.
"He acts like he's a child sometimes," Laksh said, shaking his head and frowning. "He left his food too."
"A cute child," Mahima said, giggling lightly. "I'll finish his food!"
Then she took his plate and started eating from it, a glow on her face. Somehow it tasted a lot better when she ate from his spoon.
Laksh smiled as he noticed how lit up her eyes were.
"You love him?" Laksh asked.
"No... I don't," Mahima answered, swallowing her food. "I just... think he's nice."
"Please. Nice and Dev?" Laksh laughed.
"I don't know what I feel," Mahima admitted. "I'm just scared to feel too much if he doesn't feel anything for me."
"He loves you," Laksh said with a smile.
"What?" Mahima gasped.
"Yes, he loves you," Laksh confirmed, making her insides melt.
