In the morning, Mahima's head was aching and she could barely keep her eyes open. It was like the fever from last night really hit her hard. Aditya was next to her, stroking her hair. She reached up and held his hand.
"Aditya..." she murmured, out of it.
Aditya looked confused.
"You've come for me... finally..." she whispered.
Aditya watched her with shock.
"Aditya," Mahima whispered and she fell unconscious again.
A shocked Aditya continued to watch her. Did she really recognize him? She had a fever, so maybe that was why she was just blabbering.
Mahima slept all afternoon, while Aditya sat by her side, waiting for a phone call from the boss. It was only after Mahima woke up, that he received his orders.
When Mahima opened her eyes for good, she brought Aditya's hand to her lips and kissed it.
"I love you Dev," she whispered.
"You were calling me Aditya in your sleep," Aditya informed her.
"Aditya?" Mahima asked, sounding shocked.
"Yes... who is Aditya?" he asked.
"My childhood friend," she admitted. "He was taken away by terrorists. I always hated terrorists Dev... they stole my best friend from me. They stole my mom and dad. They stole the mom who adopted me. They stole everything from me."
Aditya leaned towards her and kissed her forehead. He couldn't get enough of this. He didn't know how he would be able to cope when she was gone.
Mahima reached around his neck and placed her hand on the back of it.
"Let me make you something," Mahima whispered. "I'll make you tea."
"Not today," Aditya murmured. "Today you just be with me."
"Why?" Mahima asked curiously.
"You're sick..." he whispered.
"Is that the reason?" she asked softly.
"We're on our honeymoon," he teased.
Mahima smiled and closed her eyes as he pecked her lips lightly.
That was when Aditya's phone began to ring.
"I'll be back," Aditya told her, and he left the room to answer the phone.
He stepped outside where Laksh was still sitting with his gun.
"Hi boss," Aditya said into the phone.
"Is everything okay?" Mahendra asked.
"Yes, everything is fine here. Did the President accept?" Aditya asked.
"No. The President refused," Mahendra answered calmly. "You know what you have to do right?"
Aditya felt like a bullet had been shot through his chest when Mahendra gave him the orders.
"I know," Aditya murmured.
"With video," Mahendra warned.
"Yes... okay..." Aditya whispered.
"Send it to me by sunset," Mahendra said. "Then we will pass it on to the President."
"Maybe we should try one more time," Aditya said.
"We've tried many times. The President won't budge. After we send him the video of his daughter being killed, he will step down of his own accord. Aditya, we are terrorists. We are not God to give second chances," Mahendra said darkly.
"Right... okay..." he mumbled. "I'll kill her."
He then hung up the phone and turned to look at Laksh.
"Are you sure you don't want me to -" Laksh started, but he was cut off by Aditya.
"No," Aditya said right away. "Let me do it... let me do it alone... I want to... spend some final moments... with... her."
His voice cracked towards the end. Laksh nodded and sat outside as Aditya picked up his gun and went inside the room, where Mahima was still resting in the bed.
"Mahima," he murmured, and he closed the door behind him.
"Dev," Mahima said and sat up.
She held her arms out for him to come and hug her, but he lifted his gun and pointed it at her instead.
Perhaps lifting his gun acted as a stronger bullet than the actual bullet would.
"What are you doing?" she asked him softly.
Aditya stumbled towards her until he was just steps away from her. He pulled the trigger of his gun... and then he shot.
