It has been four whole days since the last attack. Four agonisingly painfully slow four days in which I walked on egg shells, I couldn't even relax in my own home without the fear of someone behind me, watching me. Waiting.
Steve was desperate to stay, he didn't want to leave for another mission. Another mission to take down Hydra, the previous two have drawn up blanks, every time they had reached the supposed coordinates, everything had been cleared.
Buildings demolished, files and traces of human activity gone. Erased. As if no one had been there in decades.
Steve wished for me to stay at the Avengers tower while he was away on the mission, he didn't want to leave me alone in case another attack happens and he isn't here to protect me this time.
We haven't been living in Steve's home town of Brooklyn long, some boxes still remained unpacked in the spare room, yet Hydra agents had managed to find us, and infiltrate the building.
Tony of course arrived in 'style', ten minutes after Steve had fought off any threats that could potentially harm us. He was adamant that Steve and I move back into the tower, he didn't understand why we wished to move so far away. But this was where Steve was born and raised.
This was his home.
There was a loud bang outside the front door startling me. Please don't be Hydra, Steve isn't back yet...
I hadn't had much training at S.H.I.E.L.D before I met Steve. I was a rookie, a newbie. A small, weak girl who struggled to defend herself. We clicked together almost instantly and we our friendship blossomed over the following months. It was Natasha and Clint that had made the final push in our relationship.
They hadn't quite planned for us to remove ourselves from the 'singles market' quite so quickly, but we had so much to relate to, so much in common that the fire ignited between us and we have been almost inseparable since.
I jumped out of my seat on the sofa as the I was greeted by a loud crack before what I presumed was the door landed with a loud thud. I gulped as I was momentarily glued to my standing position.
"Captain Rogers, Miss _____ _____. Show yourselves, we don't want to hurt you. We just want to show you a better way. A happier way. We can make you stronger than you ever knew." a man called.
I heard heavy footsteps and I was begging my mind to snap out of my trance and move. I need to get out of here.
"Miss ______, what a pleasant surprise." one of the four men sneered.
"Oh it's a beautiful surprise." I said, sprinting off toward the spare bedroom.
I locked the door behind me and ran over to the balcony glass door, this led onto the metal stair case descending all the way down to the back alley.
"Now, do you want to come out... or do we have to come in?" they asked as I rung Steve's number.
"Come on, come on, come on, please pick up." I chanted to the ringtone as I glanced over the railing.
"Hey doll, whats up?" Steve's familiar voice asked, yet it sounded distant.
"Steve! When will you be home?" I asked, a heavy thud knocking at the room door.
"We are a few miles out from the tower ______." Tony's voice said, they must be on speaker.
"St-" I was cut off when bullets sounded as they shot around the lock of the door, causing me to drop my phone.
