Don't you hate it when people hate on just the fictional genre? Like saying they don't like it because they just can't into it or something stupid like that? The thing about fiction is it takes patience, you can't just open a fiction book and be transported magically into a whole new world, you've gotta figure out rules and stuff.
For example, you can't open Narnia at a random page and be immediately transported there, you need to learn the rules. Do animals talk but in our world? Does a lion make a better president then some of the people we have now? (Actually that one fits...) Do beavers know the area better than you? No? Then you won't know these things when you first get there. Patience.
It's like being born, you're in a whole new place, you don't know what's going on, if you're the main character of a book then you're probably in some kind of danger or are wet and cold, (seriously, what's with people showing up randomly cold and wet? Is the Pacific ocean now the identified teleportation system for books?) and if you're like any person in any book ever, you have no clue what's going on! Look at babies, they can be on Earth for like five years and still not have any idea what's happening, don't even get started on teenagers, we can be around for like nineteen years and still don't know what's really happening.
So have patience! Find the right book to start with, if you really want to get into fiction but keep having a hard time, it's probably because the book you're starting with is deep in the fiction realm. Start with something lighter, like Harry Potter, or Percy Jackson, or even some Roald Daul stuff.
