Chapter 15 - Day 10/ the final day #2

Flashback
If it's Haymitch and Effie's crying then something's really wrong. And I can feel how my face turns white.
*end of flashback

Peeta helps me up and Effie takes over our places while Peeta and I run to the hospital.
I fall down while we're running. Peeta notices that I've fallen and turns around and carries me all the way to the Capitol hospital. Bridal style.
When we reach the hospital Peeta lets me go, but I feel a little dizzy. I don't wanna loose Haymitch too.
Peeta sees me and picks me up again. He walk up the the girl behind a desk.
>> I wanna visit Haymitch Abernathy.<< he says and the girl nods and looks around in some papers.
>> How many are you?<< she asks.
>> Two.<< Peeta says.
He looks at me and I give him a weak smile.
>> I think you need to take a look at her too.<< Peeta says and looks at me with worried eyes.
I shake my head.
>> I'm fine.<< I say and give him another weak smile.
For once he just nods.

We get followed to a hallway and a nurse opens a door with the numbers 017 and gives us a smile.
A doctor stands in the room with a notepad and I see Haymitch lie in a bed and looks at us with reddened eyes.
>> Hello sweetheart.<< he says and gives us a weak smile.
I smile at him and turn around to the doctor.
>> What's wrong with him?<< I ask the doctor.
>> His liver is really damaged, because of his drinking habits. His liver won't get fixed.<< he responds and looks at both me and Peeta.
I gasp and I can feel how my eyes fills with tears.
>> Will he- will he be okay?<< I ask and I can feel how a tear falls down my cheek.
>> I don't think so. If he doesn't get a miracle or a donator.<< he says and looks at me.
I feel my eyes blur.
Haymitch, the one who saved me and supported me the best he could through the games and through the rebellion.
God have beaten him now. They must be even now.
>> It's okay Katniss.<< Haymitch says and smiles weakly.
>> I've done living, I've done my duty.<< he says.
I shake my head.
>> No. I can't loose you too.<< I say and I feel one year make its way down my cheek.

Peeta and I sit outside the hospital room for a while. Watching the games on the television on the wall.
Rock is still alive. Thank god.

The doctor comes out and looks at us.
>> His liver is out of function. It stopped work.<< he says.
>> How much time do he have left?<< I ask him and feel my eyes blur.
>> A couple of hours.<< he says.
>> I'm sorry.<< he says and walks away to give us some time alone with him.
>> Hello.<< Peeta says.
>> Hello lovebirds.<< Haymitch says and I can see how he's become more weak.
I feel my eyes blur and I feel two tears slowly making their way down my chin.
>> I don't want to loose you too.<< I say.
Haymitch smiles a weak smile.
I walk towards him and gives him a hug.
>> We'll bring Effie here.<< I promise him and we both walk out of the door.

It isn't before we're outside the hospital I'm starting to cry.
I feel read after tear making both my of my chin wet of tears.
Peeta holds me tight in his protective arms and strokes my hair calmly.
>> It's gonna be okay, I promise you it will.<< I says and I dry my tears.
I smile a sad smile at him and he takes my hand and we walk back to the tribute center.

>> Effie, you should go see Haymitch.<< I say to her.
She smiles sadly on us and walks out of the room.
We walk back to our seats and Peeta searches out for my hand and holds onto it tightly.
>> I'm so impressed how strong you are.<< he says and kisses my cheek.
I smile at him.
>> Thank you.<< I whisper and kisses his lips.

Two hours later
There's only three tributes left.
Rock, the girl from Gale's team and another girl who I don't remember which team she is from.
Rock is safe from the other ones.
But suddenly they are starting to fire away fireballs at him.
I guess they tries to repeat my games. Because I'm the mockingjay and they wanna show the kids how much I suffered even though I'm just one of the victors, who have suffered exactly the same as the rest of the victors.
Rock is running away from the fire balls and in the direction of the cornucopia.
I hold my breath as I see the girl from Gale's team running in the same direction, towards him.
Suddenly the last girl bursts out through the bushes and towards the cornucopia.
I see Rock picking up his knife and throwing it at the girl, and it hits her right in the head.
He takes a second one and buries it deep into her chest.
I feel so horrible for making them all kill eachother. I just wanted revenge.

Peeta squeezes my hand tightly and looks at me.
>> It's gonna be okay.<< he says and smiles at me.
>> Even if he won't make it.<< he tells me.
I rest my head on his shoulder.
>> Thank you.<< I whisper.
He rubs my back soothingly as we watch Rock fight with the girl from Gale's team.
She throws a spear in his direction, but he's got good reflexes and jumps to the side. He picks up a knife and throws it at her.
It hits her deep in the chest.

He understands that he just stabbed the girl he loved with a knife and I see him fall down on his knees in he grass.
I can see a small tear running down his eye, and he doesn't wipe it away.
Suddenly a cannon goes off, for the girl he stabbed earlier.
He crawls up to the girl from Gale's team and holds onto her hand.
>> I'm so sorry.<< he says and shakes his head and a second tear falls down his face.
>> I don't know what I just did. I've stabbed you with a knife. You are the one I love. Why did I do that?<< he questions himself.
>> It's okay. I forgive you.<< she says and a tear falls down her eye.
I feel myself sobbing and Peeta rubs my back soothingly and whispers calming things in my ear.
>> I- I love y..- << the girl says and before she can finish her sentence the cannon goes off.
She's dead.
Rock just sits on the ground. On his knees looking up at the sky for avoiding his tears from streaming long down his face.
Her face shows up at the sky.
Cara.
Her name was Cara.
He turns down his face and looks at Cara, who lies with her head in his lap.
Suddenly Caesar's voice are booming through the speakers. He sounds so much different. He doesn't sound happy anymore.
"Ladies and gentlemen, let's presentate our victor of the last hunger games. The symbolic games. Rock Snow!" Caesar says through the speakers and Rock moves away from Cara's body.
A hovercraft comes to pick him up.
He looks completely different. His cheeks are sunken in, you can almost see his bones through his skin. His eyes are dark and he's got very big and dark circles underneath his eyes.

Everyone who still are at the table, Gale, his companion, two who trained the other girl and Peeta and I.
They all starts to shake hands with eachother.
When Gale comes up to Peeta to shake his hand, Peeta just looks on his hand in disgust and takes my hand and walks away. I'm not complaining.
I hate Gale.

Peeta and I walk back to the penthouse. We aren't allowed to meet Rock before a couple of days. Two to be exact. They have to make him gain weight and remove all of his scars and cuts and so on from the games.
When we reach the penthouse I burst into tears.
I've lost Haymitch.
I've lost Pearl.
I've seen Rock broken on half.
I got to know that my mom is dead.
I got the news that Prim was alive and well and are together with Cato.
In just two weeks.
And I haven't realized it before now.
The games destroyed me.

Peeta lifts me up in his arms and carries me into our bedroom, bridal style and puts me down on the bed. He jumps in beside me and holds me, as I cry out all of the sorrow I've felt but haven't been able to show during these weeks.
Just think how much Haymitch must've suffered during his time as a mentor.

Peeta whispers in my ear.
"Katniss."
"Stay with me."
I answer him.
"Always."
