I was freaking out, just a little bit. Arsen had dropped me off at home and I was stuck thinking about what my mom was going to do when she found out I got a tattoo.
I couldn't just leave the bandage on forever. If I left it on too long it would start to heal into my skin and that would also be really hard to explain. I also had to tell my mom that I had gotten a job at a Tattoo Parlor. Definitely not her place of choice, I was dead meat.
What possessed me into letting this guy talk me into such a thing? Yes, I was eighteen and yeah that meant I could make my own choices, but my mom was terrifying. The cute, petite woman act was just that, an act. When she got angry all of Hell's fury was released and Satan used my mother as a vessel.
To my mom, nothing was more important than our image. As a family, we were to look so perfect on the outside that other families secretly hated and envied us. We were made to go to Church every Sunday, which I didn't really mind, and afterwards we hosted a barbecue.
This I minded.
Since we just moved here at the beginning of the summer, my mom thought that hosting a barbecue after church would be a good way for us to meet new people. What started off as a good idea turned into a social event where all of our new 'friends' from Church came over and snooped through our stuff and nosed into our personal lives.
Some of the people were genuinely appreciative towards what my mother was trying to do, others though just took advantage of our hospitality and free food.
My mom had made friends with some of the other moms in church. They all sat around and talked about Pinterest, recipes, and how to make organic-gluten-free-dairy-free-soy-free-fat-free-nut-free-sugar-free-and fun-free cookie dough bites. What were my moms new friends going to think of her rebel teenage daughter getting a tattoo? They might even end up liking Chase better than me!
Maybe I can pay Chase to sleep with one of their daughters? I probably wouldn't have to pay him.
My mom walked into the house armed with grocery bags. I was going to tell her as soon as she had gotten home, but when she started pulling out cucumbers, apples, watermelon, and other hard fruits and vegetables, I decided to wait. If I told her and she chucked one of them at my head, it was bound to leave a mark.
When all she had left was a loaf of bread I cleared my throat. "Mom can we talk?"
She smiled. "Of course honey."
She put the bread away and came over to give me a hug. "How was your day?"
I smiled nervously. "It was really interesting, filled with excitement."
"More excitement than the paint?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
I took a deep breath. "I got a job."
"That's great!"
"Take a seat mother, this is where the excitement comes in."
My mom hesitantly took a seat, looking at me curiously.
"I got a job at a tattoo parlor." I spoke quickly, holding my breath afterwards in anticipation for her response, and ready to run in case she went for the apples.
Her hands gripped the kitchen counter so tight that her knuckles were turning white. Her face was stormy and turning red.
Lucifer was coming.
I held up my bandaged finger. "I might have taken a souvenir from said tattoo parlor."
The table was going to break any minute now, I actually heard the wood creak. She didn't say anything for a long time, she just fumed in silence.
