It has been a week since Chase told me he had gotten someone pregnant. Since then, I have spent most of my time working and trying to get him to reveal to me who the baby mama was. No matter how much I poked and pried he wouldn't tell me. The only answers I got out of him were "You wouldn't know her." and "She doesn't go to Quaker."
It was driving me crazy. I'm not one of those people who needs to know everything that goes on in my family's personal lives, I just prefer to be in the loop.
I was at Ashton's tattoo parlor, sitting behind the reception desk, and staring at my phone screen. Chase still hasn't texted me back. He was finally annoyed with my constant badgering and stopped responding to me.
He still hasn't told mom and dad and the longer he waited, the worse it was going to be when it finally did come out. Chase needed to get it over with.
Mom had stopped talking to me completely in the past week, she didn't seem mad, she just acted like she didn't know what to say to me anymore.
"What does my schedule look like today?" Ashton said, coming up behind me and leaning over my shoulder.
"Uh..." I mumbled, aware of how close he was to me right now. I could feel his warm breath on my neck and the scent of his cologne wafted over me.
"Amelia," He prodded. "My appointments?"
"Sorry!" I jumped out of the daze I was in and pulled up Ashton's schedule on the computer.
"Justin Adams is coming in at 2:30 to finish up the portrait of his girlfriend."
Ashton nodded. "Okay what else?"
"Arsen is coming back in at 5:45 to finish up his 'super secret tattoo' that Amelia isn't allowed to know about." I read off the schedule, rolling my eyes.
I crossed my arms. "Add that to the list of things I'm not allowed to know." I mumbled.
Ashton laughed. "You sound bitter."
"I am!" I complained. "I am one more secret away from stomping my foot!"
The eldest Brooks brother sat down in the chair next to mine.
"Would it make you feel better if I told you one of my secrets?" He asked.
I wanted to say no, to be strong and give him the silent treatment until he couldn't take it anymore and spilled his guts about Arsen's tattoo, but I just couldn't. My curiosity was once again getting the better of me. I loved secrets, I loved knowing things about someone that other people don't know. There were so many possibilities as to what secret Ashton might have, I needed to know.
"It might make me feel better." I said, twirling the chair to face him.
He smirked. "I thought so. You have to keep this between us, not even Arsen knows."
I crossed my heart. "I wouldn't dream of telling anyone your secret."
"Okay," He shrugged. "I'm afraid of birds."
I stared at him in disbelief. Was that it? He was afraid of birds and that was it? That was his deep secret that not even Arsen knew?
"You're afraid of birds?"
He nodded. "Terrified."
I looked down at his forearm. "You have an owl tattooed to your arm."
"So?"
"An owl is a bird." I informed him.
"I realize."
"You're afraid of birds, so you get an owl tattooed to your arm?"
