An;; so this is a rather weird and abstract chapter, but I didn't want to make this scene cliche (though it still is) so tahdah! I hope you enjoy, and thank you so much for voting and reading. This story is on a clear track, though it will be many chapters before it finishes (around the length of 'protect me'). Please let me know what you think in the comments, as I haven't had much feedback on this story. Enjoy!
Lucifer xoxoThe darkness consumed me from all around, at every twist and turn I made. I wanted to escape it, but the path I was running down had no reprieve, and no matter in which direction I fled, and how far I travelled along this route, I discovered nothing but oblivion, the darkness following me around every single curve in the track, slowly but surely catching me up. My lungs were screaming in exertion and below me my shaky legs were quickly turning to jelly due to the amount of strain I was putting them under, but in my unpenetrable fear, all I could focus on was running and the erratic beating of my unsteady heart, not my injuries. I had fallen twice on the uneven road and scraped both knees and cut my left hand as well, but here, it hardly mattered - noting mattered, except getting away.
I wasn't sure how long I had been running, or why I was running. A voice in the back of my mind told me it hadn't been a long a time as I suspected, but the harsh ache in the back of my thighs told me different. It was as though I'd been running for many days, with little breaks inbetween mad dashes and no refreshments or ointments. What I was running from was another question my mind posed, yet the answer to that was even unclearer. My first guess had been to get away from the darkness, but I knew it's prescense had a much more sinister figure behind it, one that I couldn't grasp yet. I could feel it's evil spirit ripple through the pure fabric of the air, threatening to tear my whole world apart.
I took another sharp twist at the next crossroad I came to, hoping to force my predator off my track using confusion. After I had sprinted a few yards down my new track, I hazarded a gaze over my shoulder to spy the darkness bounding behind me at lightening speeds, mere inches away from my heels, its jaw snapping at the fabric of my jeans. It had now taken the shape of a fierce lion, twice the size as big as a normal lion, it's teeth the only colourful part of the illusion. From its jaw hung the Crimson coated teeth and as it gained on me, they seemed to glimmer brighter. A faceless warrior rode on the back of lion, but in my fear, I couldn't pay it any attention. Instead, I turned my attention back to the uneven road before me and continued to fly down the track, almost tripping a few times over a few loose stones, yet somehow managing to regain my footing before I could fall into the lions widespread jaws.
Go on Drew, you can do it!
Drew. The name seemed strangely familiar, and for a moment, I pondered the reality that it was the name of the dark creature behind me, until I realised the simplistic name didn't have a sinister enough ring to it to belong to such a beast. It must be my own name, I recalled with a sense of pride. Finally, something had came back to me, and as much as I wished to rejoice for it, I continued on my manic journey, even managing to pull further ahead from the darkness with a sudden burst of energy.
Another twist made itself apparent in the road, and I rushed down it without thinking to the direction I took, only focusing on putting distance between myself and the demonic lion. I didn't look back this time, and that helped me in my efforts to push forward. Perhaps if I didn't think about the beast, it's prescence would no longer scare me and enable me to focus solely on running, I thought, but the pounding footsteps behind me made it near impossible to forget the darkness behind me. I ran faster, my breath beginning to raise up around me in steamy billows.
Why are you even fighting Drew, you know you want it to get you! If you didn't, you wouldn't even be here, in this sick little coma-induced dream? An unfamiliar voice cackled from far off. I instantly averted my eyes around my surroundings, to look for the speaker of the sinister words. However, my eyes found nothing, and moments later, I cursed itself for allowing myself to be distracted from my getaway and continued, pushing my little legs harder in order to try get more distance between me and the darkness.
