Blue's pov
"Do you know when your birthday is?" Ashton questions. The five of us were sitting in the family room. Luke, Michael, and Calum were playing some violent video game while Ashton and I sat on the couch. He would ask me a question and I would write my answer.
'I don't know that date. I know the time of year though' I scribble onto my board.
"When?" He asks. I had a feeling that the boys were trying to figure out my family and why no one knew who they were. They had all been staring at me during breakfast with looks of determination.
'When it gets cold and the sparkly trees go up' I write. He reads it, then gives me a puzzled look. I frown then start to draw one of the sparkly trees on the side of my board. It wasn't until I added the star at the top that he recognized it.
"Christmas trees," he tells me. I nod.
"You know, without hearing her talk or being able to read what she writes, it sounds like a really weird conversation," Michael laughs.
"What are you two even talking about? Christmas?" Luke asks.
"Blue's birthday. She knows that it's in the winter, when Christmas trees start going up," Ashton explains.
"How does she know that?" Calum questions. I turn and wrote on my board.
'A lady at the orphanage would give me a cookie. I can't remember what day it was. Out birthday was the only day we were allowed sweets' Ashton reads off what I had written. I bite my lip, then erase that and start to scribble down more.
'They didn't know my actual birthday. No one does. Just like my real name. There was no note left with me' I tap on Ashton's shoulder to get his attention. He turns away from watching the video game and reads my dry erase board again.
"We should decide what day your birthday should be!" Calum exclaims as he shoots Luke's character. Luke mumbles a profanity as his character dies.
"What do you say Blue? Do you want us to choose a birthday for you?" Ash asks, his eyes bright.
I hesitate, then write 'Isn't that cheating?'
"No it's not cheating. We'd pick a day around Christmas. It would be close enough," Michael tells me. I shrug, not really wanting to protest.
"Great! I choose December fifteenth," Luke calls out, way over excited. I giggle softly.
"Whoa. Did you guys here that?" Michael asks, pausing the video game that him and Calum were still playing. He turns and looks at me.
"Yeah," Luke replies. All four boys were staring at me again. I start to get shy.
"Her giggle sounds exactly like Ashton's," Calum says, his eyes wide. I sit there awkwardly.
"That was really, really weird," Ashton mutters. They snap out of it and go back to what they were doing before. Michael ends up killing Calum's character almost right away. Luke and Ashton start laughing. I sit there, wondering what on earth they had been talking about.
