Tori's P.O.V.
As the weeks went by, I slowly got more and more miserable. Wendy kept spreading rumors, and everyone believe them... everyone that is, except for a few close friends. Victoire, Cass, Haylee, Fizzy, Nina and Blue stood firmly by my side. I was so grateful to have them with me, especially since they were still trying to convince me Wendy was lying.
They were getting so much hate from other students, and I felt so bad. People ignored me like I had the plague, but they would walk up to the other girls and tell them about how I had hit Wendy and ask how they could stand to be around me. Every time we walked down the halls together, people would glare at them.
"You guys don't need to do this! If you stop hanging around me, the other students will start talking to you again!" I said, one evening when we were all meeting up to sneak down to the kitchens.
"Please," scoffed Cass. "The only people we want to talk to are the ones that aren't mad at you."
"She's right, Tori. The seven of us are the coolest witches in school." Fizzy said, pushing her hair off her shoulders.
"Besides," Haylee smirked. "Eventually everyone will forget all about the little rumor. The guys won't be able to stay away from Nina that long."
Nina's eyes widened and her jaw lowered. "Haylee!" She exclaimed. She playfully shoved Haylee's shoulder, and then dropped back to join me. "Ignore her, she's just jealous. She wants the guys to follow her around like they follow the two of us around."
I stopped and looked around. "Um, Nina? Do you see any guys following us, because they've pretty much ignored me since I've gotten here."
"It's cute how clueless you are." Blue laughed, wrapping her arm around my own.
"I'm being serious!"
"Oh, please. Before the rumors went around, Teddy had to keep the guys in his group in line all the time. He practically whipped them if they ogled you." Victoire giggled. When I rolled my eyes, she folded her arms and raised an eyebrow. "That's fine, don't believe me, but what about when Henry asked for help with Herbology?"
"He was failing and couldn't remember the difference between the plants!"
"Tori, you don't even know the difference. Herbology is not your strongest suit." Victoire laughed.
"Fine, but what about when Winston asked you to Hogsmeade? He could not have been more forward."
"After I said no, we talked. He explained that all his other friends had dates and he felt left out. It was no big deal."
"Merlin, you're dense!" Cass laughed.
The rest of the week went by with no more trouble. It was only on Monday after Transfiguration that a new rumor surfaced.
"Victoria what?"
"Yeah, I know. I thought hitting Wendy was low, but this.."
I looked over at Cass. She was just as confused as I was, so motioning for me to stay hidden where I was, she walked over to the girls. After a quick conversation with them, she came strolling back to me.
"What was that about?"
"Well apparently someone put something in the pipes that leads to Hufflepuff. The entire house is now sick and is unable to leave their dorms, and Madame Pomfrey is feeding them all a nasty smelling potion which is working as an acid to clean out the gunk stuck in their stomachs."
"Nasty smelling potion? Gunk?"
"Sorry, that's all the details they gave me. When rumors travel, all the lovely details get left out."
"It doesn't matter," I sighed. Leaning against the pillar I closed my eyes. "Now I'm going to be known as the girl who hit and threatened another student, and poisoned an entire house."
"Hey, it'll be fine. All we need is to catch Wendy in the act."
Two more weeks went by, and we were still un able to catch Wendy. She wasn't laying low though; she had kept very busy and now I now had a long trail of rumors behind be. Apparently I had switched all the unicorn hairs with cat hairs in the potions classroom (which may not sound that bad, but when making a potion it managed to send multiple students to the hospital wing). It was also said that I had placed dung bombs all along the main corridor, tampered with the Quidditch stands, and sent all the owls in the Owelry out with letters, so that it was now completely empty. There was a lot more rumors, but those were the main ones people were talking about.
I had to catch Wendy. Teddy was completely disgusted with what he thought I had done, and Wendy smirked everytime she saw me. If I didn't catch her soon, it may get to the point where I was kicked out of Hogwarts.
It was only after I left the sanctuary of my dorm that I realized. There was one thing I had and knew how to use that Wendy didn't.
I hopped off the couch and started planning. I would need some help, but I would catch Wendy. Soon everyone would know she was lying.
