Dear daddy,
There have been so many changes here! To start with, I think I’m finally getting out of this gloomy mess. I’m actually smiling and laughing. For the first time in five years, I’m free, daddy. Free from almost everything that tied me to Pat. I just …. I don’t know how to explain it all to you. I want you here, daddy. I wish you were here to understand me. I mean, I have mum and Michael and Betty and they’re all so great. But they’re not you, daddy. You were the one person who used to get me perfectly. After you died, the only other person who understood me was Pat. And he too, went away. After my long wait, I think fate sent another person for me. He’s really sweet and kind, daddy. If you were here, I’m certain you’d love him. His name’s Jeremy. Though it’s been only a month or so since we met, I’m really happy that we’re friends. But yesterday, I think I sorta over-reacted. He asked me about Pat, and I don’t know what came over me for a second. I panicked and ran. But he was so sweet, daddy. He actually calmed me down. I just hope that he doesn’t leave me like you and Pat did. I’m not blaming you, I’m just sad over what happened. Anyway, I’ve gotta gather enough courage to talk to Jerry after yesterday. Miss you daddy!
-Yours lovingly,
Mer
Meredith folded the letter carefully and placed in the envelope. She looked at it for a while and then put it back in the drawer.
“Sis! Sue’s here!”
Michael’s voice screamed, and Mer yelled back.
“Coming, Mike!”
Sue was sitting on the couch when Mer came into the drawing room.
“Sue! What brings you here?”
“Delivering a message, Mer. Would it be alright if you’d come to Jerry’s house today instead of him coming here? His dad’s got a table full of paperwork and Jeremy’s gotta help him. He’s willing to come for the editing, but you see, it’s a little hard.”
Meredith smiled.
“That’s no problem at all. I’ll come. Gimme five minutes.”
“Take your time.” Replied Sue.
Meredith went back into her room, put on a decent pair of jeans and lavender top. She brushed her hair and opened the drawer which contained the letter. Putting it in her bag, she walked out of the room.
“Alright, I’m ready. Shall we go?”
“Sure.”
The two ladies got out of the house, and made their way to Sue’s car. For the first time in the history of Sue’s driving, she was slow. She was getting increasingly annoyed at her slow pace, but tried hard to keep a calm face.
“You okay, Sue?”
“Never better, Mer.”
“You sure? Coz Jeremy told me that you drive like a maniac. Now you’re driving like there’s a baby in the car. It’s alright. You can go at your own pace. I don’t mind.”
Sue’s face lit up.
“Really? You mean that?”
“Of course I do.”
Sue smiled and hit the accelerator. The car zoomed ahead. Once Sue stopped, Meredith couldn’t help but laugh.
“Oh my god! It’s been ages since I was in a speeding car. He was right. You are one crazy lady, Susan.”
