I didn't know what to do after that happened. The girls, Jana to Josie along with Anna and Juanita (Jedediah's courting partner) went to finish making dinner. Some of the boys went outside to play with the younger kids. They were all suited up for the winter.
But I honestly didn't know how I felt after that argument. I was surprised when Ben was about to mention the number of babies we were having. We were talking about telling them last night. Yes they already knew about the baby and I guess they think that the baby is really big or no one has noticed. I am in my second trimester. I haven't told the family when I was due either. Tonight is the night where we will tell the family the news.
I did know that I wanted to tell the family sooner or later. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that I used Jana's pregnancy test.
We hadn't had dinner yet, it was almost ready so I started to go and help when Ben pulled me aside.
"Jess, you okay?" He asked me. He knew as much as me how badly we wanted to share the news.
"Ya. I'm thinking we stay and tell everyone during bible time." I said and headed to the kitchen.
In the kitchen Jana was there. When I walked in she gave me a look.
"Jana," I said
"Jess, look, I'm happy that you're having your baby and everything but that just put me in a really awkward situation that if was uncovered, could have terrible consequences."
"Well, I-" I started to say
"No, not well. Look I don't know what your announcement is and I want to be here for you but I also need to protect myself."
"Okay....."
"What is your announcement?" Jana asked. I debated telling her and decided it was best.
"It's about the number of babies I'm having." I said. Jana's eyes went wide.
"How many?" She asked.
"Three" I said.
Her face twisted there was a hint of happiness and a hint of pain.
"Congratulations." She said less excited than I had hoped.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because," she started "I'm having triplets too.
