Tsukishima's POV
"You're not wearing some skimpy outfit again, are you?" I asked Akira as I walked her down the halls towards the courts. The rest of us headed for the bleachers to get front row seats.
"Nope," she said, rolling her eyes. "Oh! Do you remember those purple shorts hat I tried on when we went to the sports shop?"
"You bought yourself a pair?"
"Nope, Jiro did," she said happily. "He bought it for me as a gift."
Her smile was annoying me for some reason.
"Well... here we are..." she muttered as we halted in front of the doors that led to the courts. She looked extremely nervous. "I feel like I'm going to faint as soon as I step in.
"But you won't," I told her. "You've done nothing but train hard, eat well, and train some more. You're ready for this, but if anything happens, you should always remember one thing."
I faced her and placed my hands on her shoulders.
"What should I remember" she asked.
"If anything happens.."
"Yeah?"
"Always remember..."
"What?"
"Promise you'll keep this in mind-"
"JUST TELL ME ALREADY!"
I took in a deep breath and she was holding hers, looking at me expectantly.
"Whatever goes down, you're probably definitely the shortest one out there."
She stared at me for a while until she finally blew up.
"Of all the things you could have said... YOU CHOSE TO SAY THAT?!"
I let go and ran for the bleachers, leaving her behind while she raged.
"AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY PROBABLY DEFINITELY?! DAMN YOU, YOU BIG MUTATED GIANT!"
Her yelling was finally out of earshot as I got up to the bleachers and sat beside Yamaguchi.
"What's wrong with her?" he asked, pointing down at Akira as she stomped though the doors and walked to her team angrily. She looked around a bit and spotted us. "She's glaring at you."
"Oi, what did you do to poor Aki-chan?" Okawa asked me.
"Nothing," I told him. He glared at me then turned his gaze back onto the courts.
"Would you look at that, our team is going up against yours," Kuro said, crossing his arms.
"Nekoma?" Hinata asked. He was right. The team on the other side of the court was from Nekoma.
"She's in trouble if she's going up against them," Kenma said. "They're ruthless, making intentional body blows and making them seem accidental. They all play dirty just to get their way."
"They smashed a dude's crotch before and didn't even get in trouble for it," Kuro said.
"Oh no! What if Aki-chan gets hurt!" Yachi panicked.
"But it looks like that other guy is going up against him instead of her," Oikawa followed.
Jiro?
Akira's POV
"I can handle this," Jiro told me as he took out his racket from its case. He was meant to be a research player, to switch places with be between matches since everything would happen consecutively.
"I'm supposed to be the one going first-"
"Not against him," he said. "trust me on this, okay? I'll give you my next match if you want but you're not going to be the one going up against that guy."
"Why not?"
"He has a point, Akira," Tachi-san said. "We're going up against Nekoma's team and they're known for playing dirty without getting caught. Did you know a guy's dong was never the same again after a match with them?"
"But I don't have one of those-"
"That's not the point," Jiro argued before letting out a small laugh. "You're really stubborn, you know that? Just go sit down and watch me own this match."
He ruffled my hair and walked up to the court to do the necessary greetings and whatnot. I have no idea why they're all so persistent that I sit this one out. I mean yeah, the other guy looked like he wanted to bash someone's head in but that just makes me want to fight him even more!
DAMMIT.
"He's just looking out for you, Aki-chan," Tachi-san said as I sat down on our bench. "You know, he seems really protective of you."
"Yeah," Eri said. "At practice, he's always taking care of you like buying you snacks and handing you your water and stuff. Maybe he likes you!"
"What in the name of all that is cute and fluffy are you talking about?" I asked, rolling my eyes. "He's just a good guy, that's all."
"Aki-chan, you're so cold hearted," Eri said, sighing and patting my back. "How will you ever find love like that? One day, you'll run into the perfect guy for you and you won't even notice your cold heart fluttering!"
"Maybe she just doesn't have a heart, " coach followed, teasing me. I simply rolled my eyes at them and watched the match.
The guy on the other side of the court was tall and had long arms. His hair was brown and slicked back and he had an evil smirk that made me want to slap his face off his head. Everything about him just pissed me off somehow. Jiro, on the other hand, looked laid back as usual. He was as aloof as he always was when we were practicing.
"You look so worried," Tachi-san said, sitting down beside me.
"Well how can I not be worried after everything you guys just said about Nekoma's team?" I asked. "I should be the one out there, not him."
"You're forgetting that this is Jiro we're talking about here. He can handle himself and you know it. He's a member of the team that you hand-picked. Have a little faith."
That's true and all but I'm pretty sure no guy would want a shuttlecock smashing down on where the sun never shines.
The match was about to begin and everyone on the bench was tense, awaiting and hoping for the survival of Jiro's dangles.
