Chapter 5 -Incomprehension-

I slowly open my eyes, but my vision blurs for some seconds. The pleasant smell of little fruits tickles my nose and I understand that Im in my room. I notice that Thomas is sitting on a chair at the end of the bed, on his phone. I blink a few times and let a dry cough escape. My brother raises his head, worried, and closes his cellphone. I open my mouth to ask him a question, but he rapidly cuts me.

No, dont talk. Take some rest and drink water. He hands me a bottle of water and I take a long sip. Im sorry, I was talking with Kelly, she worries a lot about you. She came here yesterday morning with Carl to see how you were feeling. They left cookies in the kitchen. He takes the bottle of water back and calls for our mother from the top of the stairs. Its been a little bit more than 24 hours since you moved. Jake and Chris came early this morning before school to see if you were awake.

Im still a little confused because of the previous events. Did he really say that Jake and Chris came to see how I was? I cough. David? I whisper.

Our mother enters in my bedroom with tears in her eyes and takes me in her arms. My little sweetheart, how are you feeling?

I feel like Ive been knocked out, I say, smiling stupidly.

Ive been so worried about you. Mister Faceless told me to let you rest but that you would eventually wake up and be okay, she adds, putting a hand in my messy hair.

I sit down and Thomas slides a pillow behind me so I can be more comfortable. I take a rubber band on my bedside table and do a bun with my grey hair. He goes to the end of my bed and sits on it.

In contrary of what the humans think, there are really other forms of life in the galaxy, but there is also other dimensions. Where physic laws dont make any sense and where magic exists. For now, we are aware of five different groups living in the universe. But today Im going to talk about our planet, Calzuma. We are the ones most similar to the humans. Our ancestors grew up in Calzuma and they were strongly inspired by human technology to create their environment. The people who live here are all normal, like the ones that we see on Earth. The only little difference is that they all possess a gene that enables them to become a substitute like David. Calzuma is known in the five people to be the planet that has the children of the elements. Thats us. For centuries, our ancestors bequeathed very special powers which makes us able to control the elements. Twenty years before today, there were six elements: fire, water, air, earth, metal and spirit. Like you probably noticed, we dont get along too well in the circle. Its because water extinguishes fire, fire burns metal, metal blocks air and you know the rest.

He gets up and goes looking through the window, revealing a greyish sky. I dont dare to speak, not wanting to interrupt his story. He seems completely lost in his thoughts and I can see a sadness on his features. The spirit destroys all the other elements. However, the children of the spirit quickly realised they couldnt read the children of the metals thoughts. History books say that it never really was a problem. Until our parents were born. The circle of our parents, seeing that the daughter of the spirit was becoming completely insane entered in a war with her to stop her. They succeeded in making her disappear from the map in what we called the dark side of Calzuma. They say that the element of the spirit wasnt really destroyed and that shes still waiting to take her revenge. Mr. Faceless send people on the dark side to find the children of the spirit, but they didnt find anything. The daughter of the spirit was however really clear on a point, she would kill the child of the metal that had the power to destroy them. To destroy the child of the one who killed her partner. He returns to the wooden chair and I remain concentrated not to miss any crumb of his story.
