Chapter 8 -First training-

The awakening was harder than I would have thought. The Saturday mornings in Calzuma are the training mornings. So at 6:30 this morning, when Jake slowly woke me up in the bathroom, my journey began.

Come on, love, its time to get up. I stretch, realising that my back hurts. To say that your first night in Calzuma will have been against the bathrooms door, laughs Jake.

Not that loud, I grunt while he opens the light.

Youre not a morning person, Jake grumbles, helping me on my feet. This contact took a quarter of a second to wake me up completely. Are you feeling okay? asks my partner without letting me go.

Yes, but Im very hungry, I admit, feeling my belly gurgling.

Ill go ask for eggs for our breakfast. Get ready, we leave in 45 minutes.

In my wardrobe, I found a lot of sport kits. So I opted for a pink short and a grey sport t-shirt.

Jake and I have been quietly walking towards the central building for a few minutes. The only words we exchanged were about the extreme changes of temperature. He explained to me that our source of energy had a very special trajectory, the nights are extremely cold and the days terribly hot.

To break the strange awkwardness between us, I ask Jake: The pendant on your keys Its beautiful. Where did you get it?

Madam is interested in jewelry? he laughs.

No, Im just wondering why youre always keeping it with you, I grumble.

My mother gave it to me, he sighs, before she died.

My face decomposes when I hear this news. He doesnt seem to notice how much I feel bad. Im Im so sorry, I whisper.

Its been years Tessa! he says. Im okay now, dont worry!

I make another attempt to break the awkwardness. Are partners always together? I mean, I rarely see partners being in two different places at the same time.

Its a personal choice, really, Jake explains, for instance, Thomas and Miranda see each other generally only when the circle gets together. But normally, the link that unites the children of an element is so strong that its very difficult for them to stay separated for a long period of time. Otherwise, the become crazy.

I feel his gaze on me, but I dont dare look at him to face it. So I decide to leave the conversation on this sad end. Fortunately for me, the road ends rapidly and the sight of the circle before the central building makes me sigh.

I know that were going to train. But Im scared of the judgement of the others because of my difficulty to control my power. I immediately notice the absence of the two persons that I really wanted to see today, but for completely different reasons. David and Chris are missing. I swallow with difficulty, realising that the sixth element may still exist.

We arrive the last ones and when we reach the group, I feel Mirandas destructive look on me.

The woman welcoming us when we arrive in Calzuma smiles at us. Hello children of the metal. Mr. Faceless thought it was a good idea to make the children of the elements practice with their dragons this morning, she announces.

We agree with little enthusiasm. I swallow with difficulty, thinking of all the dragons together and free around me. Kelly subtly crosses my gaze and winks at me. Carl places his hand at the bottom of her back and they rush to the arena. Two days have past since Friday, but I only realise now how much I deeply miss my friends.
