-Point of view Tessa Belar-
An incontrollable hunger forces me to open my eyes. My head hurts so much that just the effort of frowning my eyebrows is painful. I still manage to see the weak sunlight plunging in my room. Then, I notice that my skin is paler than usual. I turn my head with difficulty and see Jake sleeping on a chair. His head is resting on his crossed arms. His ring reflects beautifully the morning light. I cough, which gives a sharp pain in my throat. Jake suddenly opens his eyes and straightens in his seat.
Im here! he exclaims. A smile encrusts itself on my lips as Jake looks at me in panic.
When he finally realises that Im okay, he cracks his back and quickly passes his hand through his hair. Hey, you scared me, Tess.
How did I get here? I ask with difficulty.
David found you on the dark side, crying and unconscious. He brought you here afterwards.
Who put me to bed?
Me.
I stare at him without saying anything, not knowing what I expected him to answer.
Well, starts Jake, heading laboriously to the exit of my room, Ill go make you breakfast and while I do that you should go take a shower. You look like hell.
So, he leaves me alone with my thoughts and my melancholy. I raise my arm, moaning, and get out of the blankets. I put my feet on the floor that is less cold than in my real home. I notice that Im wearing the same thing as yesterday and it reassures me. I wouldnt have wanted Jake to see me in my underwear if he would have changed me I head to the bathroom where I lock myself for at least an hour.
Finally, I descend the stairs into the wide kitchen, staring at the ceilings filled with recessed. I dont think I could, one day, get used to the strange temperature of this planet. At night its extremely cold and at day its unbearable heat. I sit at the big table, putting my face in my hands. Jake puts a plate in front of me which makes an unpleasant sound that rings in my head.
The shower woke you up? asks Jake, trying to sit in front of me without making any noise.
I growl as I take my fork, looking at the content of my meal. Theres a pancake with two blueberries for the eyes, a strawberry for the nose and some raspberries for the mouth. I suddenly stifle a shy and mocking laugh. What!? worries Jake with a stupid air, Thomas always said that you like that kind of things!
Yes, when I was five years old, Jake, I laugh.
He laughs too and I start to eat. So, how are you doing? he asks.
Lets say that sometimes I wonder if what I do is good or bad, I admit between two bites.
What do you mean? He seems really worried for the first time since we met, which makes me almost trust him. I cut a piece with blueberries and hand it to him since I dont like them.
Miranda and Chris kissed in front of me yesterday in the manor of the water, I sigh, which means that, once again, you were right.
Tess
I sink into my seat and push my plate far from me. I dont dare look at him. I dont want to see his triumphant air. Whats worst is that if I look at him, Im afraid Ill start to cry all the tears in my body. I see him getting up in the corner of my eye. Perhaps he prefers to leave me alone with my emotions. On the contrary, he crouches beside me and places his hand on mine. A shiver runs through me and a wave of heat submerges me. He forces me to put my arms around him and he hugs me with a crafty hand, petting my hair.
