"So, Dani," Neil said, "Why were you acting all friendly with Jimmy yesterday?"
Dani looked up from his keyboard. "Know your enemy," he responded, "The more you know about him and the nicer you are to him, the more likely he'll either let something slip or we could figure him out."
"That... that actually makes sense," Neil replied.
Dani went back to fiddling around with his portable keyboard, clicking a few keys and probably trying to write something.
Matt walked back onto the bus, muttering under his breath. Or, trying to mutter. His loud, energetic nature made it hard for him to be quiet.
"I don't get why Jimmy can't sleep on the bus with us. We have an extra bunk, it's not right that he should have to sleep in his car just because my friends don't like him!" He walked through the bus to the back room, not even giving Neil or Dani a second glance.
The two blinked at each other until they were sure Matt was out of earshot.
"At least he still considers us friends. There's hope," Neil whispered.
"There's always hope," Dani said, "If we let Jimmy on the bus, we could actually find out more about him."
"I don't want anything to do with him," Neil spat.
"At least act nice. That's all he's doing- I can see it in the way he looks at you that everything he does is an act," Dani observed, "Fight fire with fire, that sort of thing."
"Why don't we just file a restraining order against him? Keep him as far away from all of us as we can, especially Matt," Neil offered.
"All we really have against him though is that he's coming to every show," Dani pointed out, "We have no proof yet that he's done something to Matt."
Neil sighed. "True," he said, "Alright, I'll deal with Jimmy for a while. But the second we figure out what he's done, I'm calling the police."
......
It was shortly after the show, and Jimmy had been waiting for them again. They had all exchanged a few words before packing up the bus.
"So Jimmy... you wanna sleep on the bus tonight?" Neil asked.
"I can sleep on the bus? Thank you so much!" Jimmy said graciously, "I bet it's a lot more comfortable than my car."
Neil forced a smile. "Yeah, of course you can. You're our friend," he made himself say.
"I'm just going to grab a few things out of my car." Jimmy said and walked over to his white Dodge Caliber. He came back with a leather jacket and his weird old book.
Dani was standing next to Neil. He had insisted he should come with him to talk to Jimmy, so he could help Neil's friendly act and stop him if he tried to say the wrong thing.
"So... Come in," Neil said hesitantly. Jimmy followed them onto the bus and Neil and Jimmy showed him around.
"We're going to go try to write something," Brad said, gesturing to Barry and Matt, "You two wanna come help?"
"Can I watch?" Jimmy asked.
Neil and Dani glanced at each other. "Sure you can, Jimmy. Neil and I will be there in a few minutes," Dani answered.
"Ok," Brad said and the four of them headed into the back lounge. Jimmy paused for a second, before he turned and grabbed his book.
"He sure seems to like that book," Neil pointed out.
"There's something shady about that book," Dani stated, as though it was a fact and not a guess.
