Tikiyah's POV:
I was thankfully able to get a ride home from the Activity bus instead of walking home in the dark or getting forced into riding home with those Sakamaki jerks. Surprisingly, I found riding the bus home peaceful. Usually I'd try avoiding the bus at all costs because I never had the patience of dealing with the annoying loud kids on it but that was America. Japan's bus customs were what I needed. No talking or blasting stupid rap music or horrible singing just complete silence. Just a silent ride. Though, I can't help but not like the rule about the phones. We weren't suppose to listen to your personal music or anything like that on the bus. I didn't want to get in trouble so I didn't do such thing. These people already look at me because I'm black and because of the stereotypes out there. I didn't want to prove them right if I didn't follow the rules.
After a few stops, I was finally dropped off at my bus stop and walked the rest of the way home. Of course, I felt slightly nervous while walking in the dark of the night despite the short distance from home or not. The night was always filled with mystery and danger. Crime and death seemed to always happen at this time of the day which always made me uncomfortable and paranoid at night. Despite my fears of being attacked suddenly I confidently strutted down the street quickly as I could. I felt eyes on me and it felt like I was being followed so I moved fast to get back home and I made it safely.
"Mom! I'm home!" I exclaimed as I got in, using my foot to close the door, throwing my backpack on the couch, and locking the door in almost one swift movement. Usually I'd get an answer from my mom once I get home and today wasn't the usual. "Mom?"
Still nothing.
I went to look around for my unresponsive mother not finding her in the kitchen nor the living room of course or any other room but her bedroom...on her phone... Who would be calling her at this hour?
"Uh...Mama?" I asked slowly as I approached her cross-legged sitting form on her bed.
"Hi, Tikiyah! How was sch--yes, she back home safely." She interrupted herself as the person on the other end of the phone started talking.
I furrowed my brows. "Um, okay, so who the flip flop are you telling my business to?"
"Your friend, Reiji, sweetheart. Oh, and he says hi!" My mom says cheerfully.
"What? Mom, why are you talking to him?" I question, greatly confused. Reiji and my mom talking could lead to friends to best friends to more than friends to him being my new dad...eww!! That thought made me sick to the stomach. She's like a forty something year old woman, looking young for her age, and he's only a high schooler. Knowing Reiji he could manipulate her into doing something like marriage or something that will just make me sick.
"He just wanted to talk. We actually have a lot in common...and I believe you and Reiji do, too. He seems like a nice guy~"
"Ew, stop." I gagged. "When did you exchange phone numbers?"
"Oh, when he and his brothers came over. Tikiyah, it's rude to talk to someone when their on the phone." My mom shooed me away with her hand. "I'll talk to you later."
I groan and stomped out of my mom's room and went to my room. Reiji and my mom are talking? What is this dude playing at? Is he trying to use her to get to me? And if so...WHY ME?! I'm not special. An average black girl for the most part so WHY THE ACTUAL FLIP FLOP IS HE TALKING TO MY MOM?!
"Damn you, Reiji." I breathed as I flopped on my bed, staring up at the ceiling. "What else do you want from me? You already have me as your stupid bunny maid and you're going to put a dog collar on top of that. What more can you possibly want from me?"
