After that mouth full Reiji and Laito exchanged with me a week ago, I've been a bit jumpy around the guys. There's no telling what their secrets were and that's freaking scary that I don't know all that I should about them being a maid and all. The gang didn't seem offended by this...except for Kanato. He seemed rather pissed at the fact that I wasn't giving him much time of day.
This was our recent conversation after it was announced that we'd be going on a field trip to the Japanese History Museum in Language Arts:
"You don't seem to like History." Kanato had commented, glancing at me once Hamada-san brought up the field trip. I had let a frown come across my face at the word "history."
I shrug carelessly, not meeting his eyes, begin to doodle on my journal. "Not a big fan of the past."
"Maybe being in the same group as I could make learning about history better."
"If we're in the same group."
"I'm sure we will. Hamada-san ships us."
"But he also ships Laito and I."
"He won't put you together with him!" Kanato snapped his mechanical pencil in two with one hand. That caught me off guard. "I know he ships us more! I'll make sure it's you and I in a group!"
"Hm..." Was all I said but yet, Kanato somehow took it the wrong way.
Kanato glared at me. "What? Do you not want to be in a group with me? Would you much rather be with Laito than I? Or Reiji? Huh?!"
I felt like I needed to raise my voice. "Reiji isn't even in this class!"
"You'd still pick Reiji over me!" Kanato's tone went down and his eyes looked sad, hurt. "Did that sunrise mean nothing to you? We almost kissed...."
"I felt bad for you since you weren't satisfied with getting all those gifts!"
Kanato's eyes widened in shock. He laughed, "You felt bad for me?! Your a mere common human. You can't feel bad for me! I should be feeling bad for a stupid weakling like you!"
"Oh? I'm the stupid one? You're the one who found a mere kiss on the cheek meaning something."
"You were going to kiss me on the lips! I felt it!"
"Well, you felt wrong."
At this point I realized that Hamada-san had stopped talking and the whole class watching us with interest. I'm surprised Kanato's fan club hasn't tried to intervene because let's face it, Hamada-san isn't doing shit if it meant that he saw his ships sailing.
The class goes "oohhh," Kanato gives me a death glare, and at that moment I realized....I just fucked up. I said the wrong thing. Only Laito held soft eyes, soft eyes of approval when I caught him watching. He gave me a curt nod.
I look away from him. He wasn't helping the hollow feeling I got from being the center of attention by embarrassing Kanato in front of the whole class. By doing this, I feel like that saying "what goes around comes around" will come into play. So, I took it upon myself to get excused for a little break outside of class. I never came back though.

I ate lunch alone, I took the first chance I got to snake away from Reiji's eyes, pulled the hood of my school jacket over my head, and found a quiet place in the courtyard to eat my peanut butter and jelly sandwich in peace. To make up for the silence I turned on some Alex Aino and put his "Work the Middle" on repeat. I hummed to it, too, and danced a little, I probably looked like a lunatic doing it but I didn't care. That song was my jam!!!
"Come and meet me at the after party." I was rolling my body as I sat down, eyes closed. "Bring your body, mama, work the middle...mm...mm...hm?" I felt a tap on my shoulder and I look up to see a rather shy brunette with a bob cut standing in front of me. How long has she been standing there? I pull an earbud out my ear. "Huh?"
"U-uh...hi..." Came the tiny voice.
"Hello..."
"U-um, you probably don't even remember me but, my name is Amara. I-I have Language Arts with you and--"
I snapped my finger. "Oh, yeah! You're one of the Kanato fan girls."
"Not only that...but...I'm was one of the girls that were bullying you..."
I peered at her. She didn't look too familiar. "....no, your not."
"Y-yes I am! I was there when you got your hair cut." Amara mimicked scissors with her fingers. I was focused on her hands rather than her face now because she was talking with her hands a lot for a normal person. "I didn't physically bully you but...I was there..."
"You were?" I stared at her harder to a point where I think I was making her shake uncomfortable. I finally pull away. "Nope! Doesn't ring a bell."
Amara wilted like a thirsty flower. "I-I was the assistant to Miki, the brunette with the blonde highlights?...The book carrier..."
I snapped my fingers. "I got it now! Yeah, I remember you. What a degrading job."
Amara averted her eyes from mine, face pink, and her hand scratching her bare arm."Y-yeah...I-I wanted to be friends with her and her friends and I thought kissing up to her with tending to her every need would get that but...I guess not."
"Girl, you were no better than I am with the Sakamaki brothers, an under paid servant."
"Y-yeah...I-I guess you're r--" Amara sneezed like a kitten,"A-achooo!!" It was high-pitched and she rubbed her nose with a finger. "E-excuse me..."
"It's fine. So, where were you when this Miki girl cut my hair?" I asked, curious.
"H-hiding in one of the stalls..." Amara sneezed again. I grimaced. Someone obviously forgot to take their allergy meds today. "I didn't want to get involved in physically bullying you like that so, I hid."
I nodded. "Okay, so where are they now? Miki and her girls?"
Amara started coughing. Luckily, she covered her mouth. I wanted to finish my sandwich clean of weird girl salvia. "I-I don't know....after that day, they just never showed up for school. Hey, um, by any chance did you have peanut butter in that sandwich?"
"Well, yeah. This is the classic pb&j sandwich...." I trailed off and looked at Amara in realization. Her face was getting pink and blotchy, itchy, and now she was uncontrollably coughing? "Crap, you're allergic to peanuts, aren't you?"
Amara coughed and nods weakly. If I don't do something, she might just die and because of me and my oblivious self!
"Crap, crap, crap!" I slung her arm around my shoulder and helped her walk back inside. "C'mom Amara! Let's get you to the nurse's office!"
