The months passed by and Our Chemical Romance progressed really well. Also, they had found somebody a little more veteran who would help and guide them and who would be the provisional drummer: Frank's father who was passionate about music, something which he had transmitted to his son.
Even so, any of the two lovers had said anything about the provisional name not even to the new bassist who hadn't thought about the need of having one, either, because they were afraid of what could happen.
But what they didn't know was that Mikey was already suspecting that there was something more than a strong friendship between those two. The looks they threw at each other while they were playing and the way they often bothered each other said it all.
They obviosuly just played 'covers' by then. They didn't dare to try to write their own songs since they had just started.
That afternoon Frank's father couldn't attend their usual practice which was being pretty boring. It was already June and the hot temperature didn't allow to do many things and it got them tired. Since he saw they couldn't do anything productive, Frank suggested to go to have an ice cream.
Gerard and he would have preferred to go just the two of them but they didn't want Mikey to suspect anything and they also liked his company. There would be another moment when they could be alone.
Before getting to the ice cream shop they had to walk past a book shop and as the two brothers loved reading comics and books they decided to get inside.
But before they could do it Frank noticed a paper sticked on the shop's door which he found interesting.
"Hey, guys, look at this." He warned the other two boys.
It was a poster which talked about an open and free 'jam sessiom' in Kearny, a neighbour town which wasn't too far from Belleville. Frank proposed to go there.
"My father loves these things and thanks to him we already have a drummer."
"Yes, but we're still be just rookies at this." Gerard said hesitating and feeling insecure.
The three boys argued about what they should do some minutes and they finally decided they would talk and decide it later, they already had two weeks to register.
They got into the book shop and each one of them went to check different shelves on their own without going too far so they could still talk to each other.
Mikey was still thinking about the contest that poster talked about and that was when he thought of something.
"But guys, if we want to register to that contest we should have a name for the band, don't you think?"
Both Frank and Gerard froze and looked at each other, hesitanting about saying something about the provisional name or not.
Mikey suddenly looked at a specific book. Just because of its title, not because he was attracted to its possible plot, he just liked how the title sounded like. For some reason, he liked it. The book was by Irvine Welsh and it was called Ecstasy: Three Tales Of Chemical Romance.
"What do you think about Chemical Romance?"
Frank and Gerard got really surprise, it couldn't be, it was a too big coincidence. Mikey studied their faces and frowned.
"What happens, don't you like it?"
The two lovers couldn't help but laugh making Mikey feel even more confused.
"The truth is... that we had already thought of a name. And this one is causally really similar." Frank dared to confess.
"What name had you thought of?"
His old brother answered that the name was Our Chemical Romance. That made all of Mikey's suspicions be confirmed. Indeed, those two were together. He internally smiled at that thought since they made a good couple.
Some minutes later they went out of the book shop and sat down in one of the ice cream shop's tables already talking about the name.
"I think Chemical Romance is fine." Frank said.
"Yes, but now that I think about it... I think it lacks of something as if it was incomplete, don't you think?" Mikey questioned his own idea.
The three of them stayed quiet, just thinking.
"Let's see, what personality or aim would you like the band to have? I mean, what would you focus it on?" Frank asked trying to stablish organization and to guide the situation.
"The problem is that we haven't got experience and we haven't thought of taking this seriously, either. What's your opinion, Gerard?" Mikey said looking especially at his brother who hadn't talked much by then.
"I'd give it an intimate attitude. Not like the old one but trying to express confidence and complicity to those who listened to us. I mean that if this turns serious someday I'd like our music to be a way out, I'd like it to be pure poetry which was relatable to everyone so they could find their own way to interpretate and understand it in a wide ambiguity."
Both Mikey and Frank already knew Gerard's abstract and artistic mind but, anyways, the jet balck-haired boy had amazed them once again.
"Okay, so how would you do that?" His boyfriend asked.
"You said the name you had thought at first was Our Chemical Romance, right?" Mikey asked so the two other boys nodded feeling kind of ashamed. "So what if we changed the 'Our' for 'My' so it has that intimate and complicit but individual at the same time intentions Gerard was talking about?"
Gerard and Frank thought about it some seconds.
Gerard smiled.
"I think it's perfect."
"Me too" Frank expressed with enthusiasm.
And that was how they chose the final name for that band which had been born being an idea and which was more real everytime without knowin that, in another past life, even thought everything had gone in a very different way for some reason, they would have got to that same conclusion.
